Q Haute is another Covid casualty, received an email today that they closing.
I really liked it - it was one of our favourites to go to for a fancy dinner out. Their sommeliers were excellent. Crazy expensive, however, so I'm not totally surprised about this news.

Midtown posted a very salty attack against Royal Bank on Facebook.

We would like to give a shout out to @rbc for screwing over a small business that gets shut out due to Covid 19. Thank you for selling off the full contents of a brand new restaurant for $7,500 and adding $25,000 in legal fees which is 25% on the debt owned. @rbc @_____rbc_canada_____ #smallbusiness #covid19 @cfib_fcei @yycbusinessnews @calgaryherald @cbccalgary @cbc @calgarysun @yycnews5 @kensingtonyyc @yychospitalitymedia @cityofcalgary @calgarybusiness @newsbobb @ctvnews @660citynews

Restaurant and business owners need to take social media lessons. Maybe it’s better to even say nothing if you value the success of your place. Maybe it’s stress or something?

Pizza Bob had to tone down his conspiracy theory posts on social media due to customer backlash.

Aren't they literally named after a racial slur? Should not be surprised. I mean, I know they probably try to cover it up with a nice story about the history of the phrase, but given the Trump tweet I'm more likely to think they giggle about getting away with calling it that.
EDIT:
ya...not buying your story.

This is the best part of that little story...

This etymological exploration is relevant to Without Papers, because customers often abbreviate the restaurant’s name to “Wop.” However, Jesse wants to make clear, he and co-owner Angelo Contrada never use this abbreviation.

says Jesse. “Being a bunch of wops, we were either going to lay bricks or make pizzas,” he says laughing.

The correct response to this should have been for the restaurant to distance itself from the comment, not say that it’s his right to make those comments.

Any thoughts about Jane Bonds BBQ? Looking for some Friday night take out. Want to try different places each week.
We did the 4 person plate from Jerusalem Shawarma last week. Pretty good, not a fan of their garlic potatoes - they weren’t really very tender. A lot of rice through. Their rice is strangely filling. It must expand even further when it hits your stomach.

Why do people care what the political views of a restaurant are? I go there to eat the food, not discuss Trump with the owners. Doesn’t everyone have the freedom of opinion? If someone supports Trump for his economic policies does that make them the devil? Do they not have the right to believe whatever they want so long as they are not outright discriminating against people? What does supporting Trump and making pizza have anything to do with the other?
My God, I’m Italian and have zero issue with WOP pizza. I think it’s clever! Never tried their pizza but I will certainly go now!

The issue wasn’t with the name of the pizzeria.

Yes. People have the freedom of opinion and choice.
The Flames chose not to invest in Bill Peters, much as I chose not to invest in Pizza Bob.
I didn’t like the anti vaxxer stance, it goes against science and my beliefs. They had a good pie, but I don’t want to support his business because he used his business platform to express opinions that do not agree with my beliefs
I obviously have freedom of choice, and if he wants to tie his beliefs to his business, then I can get perfectly good pizza elsewhere
And it’s not a hard boycott for me, I might go back, if I feel like their pizza. Just have generally reduced my investment because if I am giving away money (ie. the portion of my payment ~allocated to profit), then I prefer to give it to someone who has not disqualified my ability to fully respect them

Did Actually Pretty Good pizza few weeks ago. It was pretty good, LOL
Not sure it was good enough to be a go to with all the other options. The Hawaiian one I did not eat, my wierdo wife eats that stuff but she liked it. The sausage one I had and it was good too.
Worth a try I would say.
