Default "Africa" documentary on Discovery channel...

Narrated by Forest Whitaker for US, Attenborough for UK, is anyone else watching this?

God damn amazing.

I can't tell you how many times, with jaw dropped, that the wife and I would say "I didn't know that!", many many interesting tidbits.

And the cinematography, wow.

BBC has done it again!

I caught this Savannah and Sahara to record, how many more were there? Doesn't look like they're replaying them. Looks like the series has 6 episodes.

If it is the BBC's Africa series, there's a version "out there" of the true BBC version with David Attenborough narrating. Forest Whitaker as an alternate isn't the sacreligious abomination that was the replacement of Attenborough with Oprah for the Planet Earth (or Life?) series, but why settle for the understudy when you can have the definitive voice of nature films?

Attenborough's voice is what I imagine god would sound like if he were real and doing voice work on the side.

Are you referring to David Attenboroughs - "Africa"?

Sometimes his soft spoken speech pattern is annoying. Like, I want to know what this place is, not have a vague understanding of what the name sounds like.

I'm not taking a big poop on the guy, just that I would not relate him to god in that capacity.

F Murray Abraham on the other hand...

I love nature documentaries like this and I'm a big fan of David Attenborough. I'm not sure it's showing here yet in 'the land that time forgot', but thanks for the head's up.

You can pre-order it from Amazon UK:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Africa-Blu-r.../dp/B00AF1H8D6

The one on amazon.ca looks like the same as the US one.

I've ordered from Amazon UK before a few times with great success.

Actually strike that, looks like the UK Blu-ray version is 50i, so unless your Blu-ray player is compatible don't get it.

That's weird, I got the Harry Potter complete set from Amazon UK and it plays fine on my PS3. EDIT: I guess most movies are not encoded in 50i but sometimes the additional content is, I never tried the additional content so I might have screwed up on that one.

I've actually grown a little weary of Attenborough's narrating, god bless him.

It's not that it's bad, just that its been done, many, many times over.

I found Whitaker's tone and pace to be a refreshing change.

I believe there are 6 episodes, 3 were on tonight.

So I was going to comment on how Laurence Olivier was my favourite documentary narrator and I just learned that they've remaster The World At War and released it on Blu Ray.

I need to buy this immediately. If you're a WW2 buff and you haven't seen this series, you're doing yourself a huge disservice. Interviews with Albert Speer, Curtis LeMay, Hitler's secretary Traudl Junge, Stephen Ambrose, Paul Tibbets who flew the Enola Gay ... it's just amazing. It is the WW2 documentary.

Neil Oliver is my favorite documentary narrator. History of Celtic Britain and History of Scotland can both be watched on youtube.

Scottish accents rule, and he asks the guests intelligent questions. Great guy.

If anyone does the DNS thingy to access US Netflix, you can also access BBC iPlayer. They've got all 6 episodes up on there with the proper narrator.
