https://globalnews.ca/news/6066971/c...r-resign-poll/

Quote:
Scheer’s Conservatives fell to the Liberals on Monday night but will take on Opposition status. They won 122 of 338 seats but placed first in the popular vote nationwide by a slight margin.

The poll showed 63 per cent of voters believe Scheer, sans majority, should resign.

About 37 per cent believed he should carry on as Conservative leader.

It’s an example of how polarizing Scheer is to voters, according to Sean Simpson, vice-president of Ipsos.

Nearly four in 10 Conservative voters believe he should resign.
This means he has well over 60% of party members still which is disappointing.

No,

Harper was a policy wonk who wrote the original reform platform. He had an opinion on everything.

Scheer is not Harper. Have you ever heard Scheer day anything interesting regarding policy?

Harper has to learn how to take his detailed policy ideas and turn them into things people could relate to.

There is nothing comparable between the two.

As an aside what is your list of PMs ranked? My number 1 is pretty set but I don’t know historically where to put Laurier, King, Macdonald(despite his corruption), Mulroney (free trade), Harper (his handling of the economic crisis of limiting money printing and bailouts).

1) Jean Chrétien - slayed deficit

He's not.

JT has said he is going to govern without a coalition and he has also said that he still supports TMX and plans to get the project up and running. That means that the HofC could be very tumultuous and the gov't could fall at any time.

Better for the CPC to hold a leadership review sooner rather than later and get somebody more qualified than Scheer to lead them into the next election, somebody without the baggage that Scheer has. No, I don't care what he believes in personally regarding his religion but he has not defined his position well enough to satisfy the electorate and yes, he could define his position much better.

The CPC needs someone like Rona Ambrose. She is socially progressive and as far as I know, has no baggage. Peter MacKay would probably be a good leader but I think the helicopter incident from his past would come back to haunt him. And the people who would be most ticked off would be from Nfld. I just don't see him being able to swing many from the Maritimes.

I think he likes thinking he is the king of Calgary and is also way to sensitive and thin skinned to any view that isn't his. His brand has also become a little toxic in the last year but maybe only locally. My opinion only.

It's a shame that some of the best leadership candidates also don't seem to want the job.

I think the Conservatives would be way better off with Ambrose at the helm, and the NDP would have benefited from Nathan Cullen as leader (though Singh has gotten leaps and bounds better than when he started).

Mind you, most the people I know who I think would have the talent for the job are also too wary of the garbage involved in politics to ever throw their hats into the ring. I can hardly blame others for putting their personal lives and families over their political ambitions.

That's a problem. The people who are qualified might just be too humble and modest to step up and put themselves in that position. Unfortunately the people who aren't qualified think that they are. That's how you end up with the candidates we did in the last election. I guess that's like life though. The cream doesn't seem to rise to the top.
