This Instagram account is archiving photos from Skatopia, which was an indoor skate park in the late '70s. I only went one when I was a little kid. It closed soon after.
Loved those airballoon parades as a kid. Still remember going nuts when they flew by at the waterpark. It was a good reprieve from complaining to my mom that the cheese she'd brought along had gotten warm and was now too "sweaty" for me to eat.

Not sure what Riley Park is like now, but I went there with some friends and our kids about 10 years ago. What a fataing disgusting cesspool. Waterbugs and white trash everywhere. Penned in like sardines. Ewww. It was so northwest. I couldn't get out of there fast enough.
Browsing through this while avoiding work has brought back some great memories. I can't believe (as far as I saw) that no one mentioned the great times trying not to get stabbed at the world's sketchiest liquor store, Beerland. Was connected to the Cecil, and shady AF. Another place you could buy draft for $8 for a milk jug, and likely get Hep B as an added bonus!

That place was indeed everything you describe it as but the T&C in Forest Lawn was just a hair sketchier in my opinion. But when you needed booze at 1:45 am in 1996, those were a couple of the places you could go!

This isn't Calgary specific, but does it seem to anyone else like there are fewer butterflies than there used to be? Now that I have a kid of my own, it seems like an especially rare chance to point one out compared to what I remember just 25 years ago...

I remember day drinking at the Cecil once, there were a bunch of us. We got pretty wrecked. A buddy was a complete mess and got kicked out, five minutes later he walked back in naked with his clothes folded under his arm.
He was legitimately surprised that he was recognized without his clothes. I miss my 20's so much.

My Calgary nostalgia grows by the day. Affordable living, still decent jobs. If it wasn’t for those goddam winters and that I have somehow morphed into a PNW hipster guy.
Ok, they're not dead, but OMG how long has Hot Wax in Kensington been around? I remember going there after school in the late 80's to find tapes (sorry, vinyl wasn't my thang).
