Just say no to anymore players over 35. We meet our quota. We're better off playing the young guys and getting them the development time needed to adjust to the game. The longer you wait, the longer it is going to take for them to become contributing members to the team long term.

If this is true, we are far from being a contender. A contender does not need to pick up a 46 year old for their top line.

Quota being zero players over 35?

While I agree with this, I believe a player such as Jagr who still can play and produce quite well, should be an exception. It's not like we have a player in the system that would be a no brainer to crack the opening day roster besides maybe Janko

Where else is there room?

Is Lazar going to sit after we just paid a second for him? Infact, I'm not sure it would really help maximize on Lazar's potential by plugging him on the 4th line, but whatever.

I doubt Gully breaks from the 3M line and he already said how that RW spot next to Gaudreauhan is Ferland's to lose.

Versteeg built great chemistry playing on Bennett's LW and I doubt management is going to sit Brouwer or Stajan with those contracts.

Where does Jankowski fit in?
I am pretty sure the Flames will carry 14 forwards, 7 dmen and 2 goalies, so you are missing another forward.

Would be a great fit

Play him 60ish games and no back to backs to keep him fresh

Maybe even rotate him out a few times each period so he's only playing like 14-16 minutes a night, he did seem to slow down a bit at the end of the season

But if he's managed, kind of like how the San Antonio Spurs managed Tim Duncan his last few years, then in the playoffs and especially as a pp specialist he's such a valuable weapon

The Flames are a 'top line forward' and top 10 goaltending away from being a contender.
I expect both will need to come from within.

Having a guy with Jagr's experience, smarts, skills and remaining love for the game on the team would be great. Nobody expects a guy his age to come in and be the difference maker, but to be a solid contributor, a good character and a great story for fans would be plenty.

I would actually prefer Iggy for the sake of history. Nonetheless, Jagr would be sweet.

BT has looked at everyone without a contract. I don't see this as news.

I think that Jagr will bring more than Iggy to the team offensively and on an even greater note he won't bring any distractions to the dressing room.

Iggy is a great dressing room guy, but you can't tell me that the return of the legend wouldn't cast a shadow over the rest of the team.

These days a contender is any team that is likely to make the playoffs.

The margins are simply that thin these days.

To suggest that a team that has a 46 year old winger on its first line cannot be a contender is simply wrong.

And who knows if the intention of the Flames is to cement him on the first line?

He would certainly get PP time, but I would see him as part of the mix.

I'm still holding out hope for an Iggy signing.

Is Jagr aware you still get paid in USD when playing for a Canadian club? Someone should let him know. That's probably the holdup.

No more than Jagr, a legend of the game. We don't need to make crap up to give validity to our thoughts. These guys are professionals, they've been around the block. The only people who are worried about Iginla coming back are fans, and the only people who would make a big stink about how it would affect the team are the fans. He is not a polarizing player like Sean Avery, the players would welcome Jarome if he were to return, and Jarome would just find his place and fit in.

Don't agree. When a team has the defensive and centre depth the Flames have being a little weak on the wings doesn't impede this team from being a contender. If Mike Smith is an upgrade on Brian Elliott this team will be contenders next year with or without Jagr

Do it. Let him only play only home games and in Edmonton. Give young guys their shot on the road.

How much would people here expect his contract to be? I understand it will depend somewhat on the amount Bennett gets. I assume a 1 year; last year his base salary was $4 million (plus $1.515 bonuses, which I believe he received $1.5), $3.5 the previous 2 years (plus $1.905-$2), but in 2013-14 he was only making $2 million (plus $2 million bonus) with the Devils. I think $2.5 million base with $1.5 in performance bonuses (games played similar to his last contract, along with bonuses for points) would be good. Thoughts?

(I know I'm putting the cart before the horse, but was just curious what guys think it will cost us to sign him)

Pass on Jagr.

If he does sign here, I bet he becomes the new whipping boy AKA Brouwer last year.

46 years old. The wheels will suddenly fall off. Yes, he had some success last season on a team that didn't make the playoffs.

Good. I'm all for having a legend who plays 2nd/3rd line offensively geared minutes to be a whipping boy and take the spotlight off the young guys who we actually rely on to win games.
