Satellite Radio Reception Problems
I moved to Calgary about a year ago and my Sirius Satellite Radio has worked fine until about a week ago. Now I can't get a signal. The Sirius help line tells me that I have to move my antenna outside. I thought that I didn't need to do that in Calgary. Do I need an outside antenna in Calgary? If so, why has my boombox worked for the last year with my antenna sitting on my kitchen counter? And why won't it work now?
Any help would be appreciated. I need my satellite radio back!!!

The terrestrial repeater must be down. It happens once in a while and usually takes awhile to fix.

I've noticed that the past week or so my signal has really sucked too. I can still listen, but suddenly it cuts out every once in a while, and guaranteed every time I go under and overpass my signal cuts out for a second or two. Never used to happen until about a week ago. I used to be able to sit under overpasses in slow traffic and never have an interruption.

The terrestrial repeater is basically a radio tower that sends out a signal that can be picked up when you don't have line-of-sight of the satellite.
In your radio's menu there should be a signal indicator. It'll tell you if you're getting a signal or not.
If it is down I can't tell you how long it'll take to fix.

my couple of units work fine. i dont get the best satellite reception but the terrestrial repeaters are good.
go into your menu options to see satellite signal and move your antenna around a few different places.

Yeah, same thing here. I've always used my radio downtown in my office by pointing the antenna out the window, but in the past 2 weeks, nothing. I've even walked around the circumference of the building and got nothing (my radio's a Stiletto). The thing still works in the car, but as mentioned by others, there seem to be more interruptions from tall buildings and overpasses than usual.
Good to know this is only a temporary thing, assuming that is the case!

For what it's worth, I wrote Sirius and asked them what the scoop was. DownInFlames had it right.

Thank you for writing to SIRIUS regarding these reception issues.
We can advise that the SIRIUSXM repeater system which currently provides
coverage to Calgary has recently been damaged and our technicians are
working diligently to resolve this issue. They do hope to have the
Repeaters back to normal functioning order by the end of this week.
Please remember SIRIUS Customer Care is ready and willing to assist you
at anytime.
Sincerely,
Steven M

Drove down Bow trail and it only slightly goes blank now instead of completely losing the signal.
