I love those grungy arcades. Even in my late 30s I could spend a whole day in one. Would love to play the Time Crisis series again. Places like The Rec Room aren't real arcades IMO - too many carnival-style games and not enough video games.
Location: In a land without pants, or war, or want. But mostly we care about the pants.
Exp:
Asteroids, Tutankhamen, Joust, Battlezone - all at Marlborough Mall in the corridor across from the theatres that has Lenscrafters and the optician's office now.

I have a blast at Rec room with my daughter but it scratches a different itch for sure
I was at the Rec Room about a month ago, and it was INSANELY busy. It was more Las Vegas than arcade, but anecdotally, Cineplex seems to have found a way to make 'arcades' viable.
I lived in a small town for a while and they had a trashy pool hall that I was definitely not allowed into. I went there to play their only game Bobble Bubble whenever I could, I really liked that game.
Weirdly they had it set so jump was up on the joystick, but every other time I've played it in the arcade jump was a button, so I hated it after that.

Does anyone remember Laser Illusions? I think it was in Southcentre. Good times!
I had fond memories of that place.
Just alone that South center before the revenovations had that orange look, orange tiles on the floor orange highlights and it was much smaller
I used to skip school with my buddies and go there with packs of cigarrettes and quarters in my pocket.
The games I played were decidedly old school. There was a Star Trek first person ship shooter that I played where you fought endless waves. Sinistar which was absolutely awesome "I HUNGER". Lunar Lander. Defender. Wizard of Wor.
I remember all the machines had ashtray's welded to them, so the "Manager" had to wander around with his change belt, and would clean out ashtrays.
Saw one of the all time greatest brawls there where a guy got literally powerbombed onto a pinball machine.
I remember the polite lineup where you'd put your quarter on a machine that someone was player. Or you'd challenge him for the machine if it was a two man game.

The game I always poured money into was Dragon's Lair and another similar animation based one involving a helicopter. It was typically a 50 cent game that would last all of 20 seconds, but I couldn't help but be drawn in by those stupid ones.
In terms of value for money "Heavy Barrel" was great. A single quarter for a really long playtime.
I played a lot of the old arcade games in the day but for some reason Tron sticks out to me as one of the games that I sunk a lot of quarters into. After that maybe Galaga.
We're already starting to see the age difference between posters and their experience with arcades. I was way too old to be caught dead playing Dance Dance Revolution in an arcade unless I had many beers in me.
I loved the TMNT and X-Men multiplayer games. Was a big fan of the Marvel Super Heroes fighter too. I was terrible at Street Fighter so I didn't waste my quarters on that.
Wait, are you...me?
I also spent a lot of time playing Spy Hunter, Contra, N.A.R.C., and Double Dragon.

I was never very good at the fighting games, but loved the Arcade Beat Em Ups. Always found that you just got more value out of your quarter with them.
Loved the a lot of the ones mentioned in this thread, but also:
Punisher
Golden Axe
Aliens vs. Predator
Streets of Rage
When I did play fighting games, I played a lot of Virtua Fighter. Also liked Virtua Cop, which didn't come out until I was a bit older.
And for anyone with an extra $7-10k USD laying around, this looks amazing:

Golden Axe 2, Alien vs. Predator and The Punisher were SO MUCH FUN and some of the best arcade side scrollers ever made. I could play them over, and over, and over.
