Default Delete: already in other thread - Jeff Beck dead at 78

Oops - didn't realize it was already in discussion in the giant death thread, my bad.

https://www.cnn.com/2023/01/11/enter...ath/index.html

Quote:
Jeff Beck, the rock guitarist often regarded among the greatest of all-time, has died, according to a statement posted to his official social media accounts. He was 78.

“On behalf of his family, it is with deep and profound sadness that we share the news of Jeff Beck’s passing,” the statement said. “After suddenly contracting bacterial meningitis, he peacefully passed away yesterday. His family ask for privacy while they process this tremendous loss.”

His representative, Melissa Dragich, confirmed the news to CNN via email.

Beck rose to fame in the ’60s when he replaced Eric Clapton in the Yardbirds. He left a year later to start his own group The Jeff Beck Group, featuring Rod Stewart and Ron Wood.

Agreed, I moved the posts about him in the other thread to this thread dedicated to him.

Absolute legend - love his Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club recording and listen to it regularly. And watching Tal Wilkenfeld play bass ain't a bad bonus as well

RIP Jeff. Thanks for all the great music over the years.

I have wondered if Nigel Tufnel was based on Jeff Beck.

“I think the hair was but it ends there,” he tells Undercover. “I knew that Christopher Guest had been watching me but Nigel is based on different characters from Glam Rock. Ironically, I was the only one who wasn’t Glam Rock. I loved every minute of that movie”.

Ugh. Devastating.

He was like a sculptor using his guitar as a tool

Blew me away both times I saw him

Huge loss. Legend

78 is a good run, lot of these guys lived a life, that's for sure.

Just watched his documentary last year, great watch, those fingerstyle players are always impressive. Mark Knoffler, Lindsay Buckingham, Tommy Emmanuel, Jerry Reed and Jeff Beck.

Wish I could remember where, but I just saw a piece where Beck said he wished he’d never done Blow by Blow and the jazzy stuff of that period. He said playing with very skilled guys like Max Middleton (?) kind of reined him in on guitar. I saw Beck live at that time and he sounded damn good to me.
