Default Canucks sign Thomas Vanek (1 year, $2M AAV)

Vanek to VAN. $2M for one year
Vanek put up 48 points in 68 games last season, meanwhile Jagr put up 46 points in 82 games...

Nice. Better than on the oilers. Canucks building towards quite the trade deadline for themselves.

I've seen rumors about Vanek to the Canucks and it turns out they were true.

I've also seen rumors about Jagr to Calgary

One part of me is worried about him putting it all together and achieving his potential and then I remember that we're talking about Thomas Vanek, the worlds most over-hyper underperformer.

He should be going to Edmonton.

If I'm the Canucks I'd be signing Vanek, Jagr, Iginla and Doan and praying for magic.

I thought the Oilers were going to sign him to a 7 year $50M deal

That's a good deal for them. If he plays okay, it will likely net them a 2nd at the deadline.

That's a smart signing by Benning. Vanek is an easy flip.

Vanek isn't the easy flip he once was.

He has left a trail of disappointment across the league from teams attempting to beef up their lineup with him.

Vanek is a plague.

If he plays well and puts up a few goals, he's a deadline asset. Fortunately for the Canucks, they don't have anyone else who can score goals, so he'll probably be worth something at least. Maybe a third. A lot of the signings they've made seem to be future trade bait.

Yeah....I think the book is out on Vanek. People keep thinking hes a great asset, but I dont know why.

He has proven to be consistently underwhelming. Buffalo should have taken the offer-sheet....although those didnt turn out much better.

So his buyout from Minnesota is actually going to pay him more next year than this contract will.

No he isn't. His worth was cemented by the end of this season, he won't produce and won't be a commodity this trade deadline.

Yeah Vanek's barely a warm body at this point. He has slightly more value than Dany Heatley's corpse.

He will always put up points, but never helps your team win. Even though he had worse stats than Jagr last year, seeing them side by side in Florida showed me just how much stats don't tell you everything about a player. Jagr was a difference maker almost every night, Vanek wasn't on any night.

Vanek looked great in Detroit last season. 15 goals, 38 points and a +2 in 48 games on a horrible Red Wings squad. I watched a lot of Red Wings games, he was legit. I cannot speak to how he looked after the trade deadline in Florida.

Many people are losing their chit about wanting the Flames the to sign Jagr, yet for a 2M one year deal are pissing on a 12 year younger Vanek who out produced Jags last season. A good no risk deal for the Canucks. Bet he out produces Six Million Dollar Man Loui Eriksson.

Strange situation in Vancouver. A lot of UFA signings. Guess they're not ready for a true rebuild while the Sedins are still playing. Perfect.
