Getting owned by the Nucks while icing our vets, great sign.

Well... Ryan Pinder looks to have been correct about the abilities of tank commander Domingue. I can't tell if this is the worst of the three games because the Canucks are winning or if the intensity seems to have dropped another notch.

For some reason Edler played almost 10 minutes that period.
Even more than Tanev and Gio.

Yeah. Vets are checked out. Why not play some more rookies who might make this game a little more entertaining to watch.. I think we'd all rather watch them than guys like Simon who won't even be with this organization in 2 games....

Darryl has always been one of those guys that teeters on the edge of genius and insanity. He's either pushing all the right buttons or people are left wondering WTF is going on.

Maybe icing vets = vets don't care = more likely to lose than playing prospects with something to prove = better draft pick????

Winning this game would be a 2 spot drop for the Canucks if my math is correct

Well we all thought that there was something rotten with this team and complacency.

Maybe Sutter is building a new culture here and making sure everyone has to earn everything.

You can argue Simon and the other scrubs haven't earned anything, but they could have been the ones working hard in practice and that's why Sutter is letting him play.

Could be that the "prospects" just aren't pushing it hard enough in practice. Sure Nesterov sucks, but if he's pushing hard in practice and being a pro, while others aren't, that's enough reason for Sutter to play him. Same with Ritchie.

Easy for us to say who should and shouldn't play when we aren't in that locker room or in practice.

We know this is a bad room and bad culture. I'm going to give Darryl leeway here as an experienced coach who has won it all before.

You don't build a winning culture by just saying you want a winning culture, it has to be developed.

The most likely explanation. Good post.

Edler is sitting on 99 goals for his career and has none this year. I think they really want his 100th and for him not to be shut out.

Yes, we only have so much of an idea of who "deserves" to be playing.
Perhaps it's an effort thing. Maybe the ones who deserve it are the ones who are buying into what he's preaching.

It's mildly annoying, but as long as the team is prioritizing development, it should be fine.

I suppose Sutter also realizes that guys like that are playing for a job somewhere in the league next year and wants to throw them a bone. He’s been consistent in playing some kids and some vets who are looking for contracts.

Yawn.

Hear this a million times about the Flames for the last decade.

The results don't back it up.

Winning teams graduate prospects. Not just blue chippers but all sorts of prospects. They put prospects in a position to succeed. They give them meaningful minutes in meaningful games.

You can talk about earning it all you want but at some point it just becomes talk and obstinacy.

What have Brett Ritchie, Joakim Nordstrom, Nikita Nesterov, and Dominik Simon earned this season?
