Yeah I'm sure they wouldn't intermingle the 21 and 22 draft picks. I bet they will use their 21 draft picks first and then the 22.

It will be a big advantage for teams with a lot of picks in the early rounds. There are always more players that emerge at 19 years old and instead of being late picks or even undrafted in 21, they will end up being 2nd and 3rd rounders etc.

We've just updated our rankings for the first time (since our initial release in early December). There'll be a bit of content pumped out over the next 72 hours, but here's the start: https://nhlentrydraft.com/rankings/

Interesting to me that you guys have Peter Reynolds so high at 34. I like it great player, smart just a bit on the small size.

Funny you should ask about him, because we just did 3500 words on what we see in Reynolds. Might need to grab a coffee first.

For those curious, we outlined notes on the top 32 players in our ranking. This one might also need a bit of a coffee, but is also easier to skim through if you're just looking for notes on certain players.

Just looking at the rankings, wow Univ. of Michigan must have a stacked team this year. 3 players in the top 8.

Well it's time to start doing homework on the draft. I feel the team will be picking top 10 and it would be nice to come out of this miserable season with a solid prospect or two.

It's too bad this draft is incredibly weak from what I've read.

Won't be like last year but it's extremely D heavy. Then again we aren't gonna know anything until covid ends.

Remember, we likely won't see a draft until after next season.

I still think we get Eklund...and he turns out to be a fraud.

The only silver lining to this is the experts said the same thing with 2014 as a weak draft, but plenty of impact players have come from it. Just unfortunate Bennett wasn't one of them.

2014 was a weak draft. The top guys aren’t elite, and the majority of round one are busts or at best mediocre. Ehlers, Larkin and Pasternak are excellent but examples of why the draft was weak - you had to luck out. You couldn’t pick one of 4 guys in a certain range and be confident you had a decent guy.

Yeah, too bad this top end is D heavy and none of the forwards are sounding like a sure-fire prospect. Top center is a jack of all trades and master of none guy. Would be total Flames moves to tank during a crappy draft year lol

I think any of Johnson, Beniers, or Eklund would be a victory. All have top 6 potential IMO. PPG in college as a freshman is nothing to sneeze at (in big 10 no less), so though they are being downplayed I think Johnson and Beniers both have pretty good offensive upside. Many guys don't play in college leagues until after their draft year, instead playing in USHL that year and being a college freshman the next. They're playing with and against much larger guys regularly. Eklund is pacing for pretty unreal offensive numbers as a teenager in the top swedish league.

This draft is still useful in the sense that we still need a franchise D. Gio is up there in age and Tanev isn’t getting any younger. An LD or RD with top pairing potential on an ELC would still be advantageous for the Flames. Any player in the top 10 would easily become our best prospect.

Board of Governors is revising the draft lottery so there are only two lottery draws, and a team can only move up a max of 10 spots. Just in time for a season when the Flames are projected to finish as the 12th to 14th worst team in the league. Too funny.
