I thought he was the #1 franchise pbp. Who retires when they're at the top.

He's not anti-vax is he? Buck Martinez can't do games in Toronto because he's an anti-vax.

If he is he's been quiet about it which isn't exactly the MO of the anti vaxxer.

Being anti-vax doesn't mean you have to protest at hospitals or make dumb takes on social media.

Had the same thought. He did openly state not wanting to travel due to COVID last season.
Rogers didn't give him any playoff games last season due to that reasoning I believe.
Gonna miss his PBP broadcasts though

Can't fault him for that as he's probably made enough money to retire comfortably and spend more time with his family.

Will always remember his "Here's Johnny!!" then saying nothing once the puck went in to let it soak in.

Canucks calls aside, I couldn’t get over the fact that he exclusively called Crosby “Sidney” or “Sid”.

Good riddance!!! The only worse homer on national broadcasts was Dick Irvine.

He was a great PBP guy. Were his calls a bit slanted towards the Canucks? Probably. He was still one of the very best in the business.

Everyone thought Hughson hated their team. Even some Canuck fans felt that way. But has he was their broadcaster for so long, he was sort of synonymous with them which made their losses (especially the embarrassing ones) sweeter.

One of the best, even with Canuck-leaning PBP call.
They don't keep you around for 42 years if you're not doing a good job.
Congratulations on a great career.

May not be entirely his choice. Rogers may not have wanted to pay him what he has traditionally made. Look at all the quality broadcasters that have left the industry in the last couple of years. There continues to be massive cost cuts, and he would have likely been highly paid.

I find it funny all the homer comments, tons of Canucks fans think he turned into a leaf homer and didnt like him doing the Canucks games anymore
I think he was great, canucks have been really spoiled going from Robson to hughson to shorthouse
