Default RIP Frank Bonner

Many wont have a clue who he is.

But, IMO, played one of the best characters in TV history.

RIP Herb Tarlek

Frank died Wednesday as a result of complications from Lewy body dementia, (the second most common type of progressive dementia after Alzheimer's disease.)
he was 79.

tip of my cap to a guy who was on one of the show I loved best when young.

I was curious.

Gary Sandy - now 75
Gordon Jump - passed 2003
Loni Anderson - 75
Howard Hesseman - 81
Richard Sanders (Les) 80
Tim Reid - 76
Jan Smithers - 71.

most of them still going strong.

I'd still be down for a show where a bunch of geriatrics are trying to keep a radio station afloat while auditioning a bunch of crazy sales people and weathering the storm of an out of touch fourth generation owner. As stated above, most of the cast is still around, although only Hesseman and Ried might be up for the acting gig.

Bonner really did hold that show together. Powerhouse role that really wasn't considered one at the time. That same show today would have garnered him some awards. His ability to show bluster and pathos was really underrated.

WKRP is one of my favorite shows of all time. Every episode was just a gem.

He did some plays at theatre Calgary, I got to meet him with my Dad once, he seemed like a really nice guy, he was really engaged with the meet and greet.

WKRP had a fantastic cast, but Herb Tarlek really was the heart and soul of the show.

I still remember that one of the best episodes was when he was sick and lied about going on vacation to go to the hospital, where he was really very vulnerable and you got a glimpse that under that brash exterior, he was a good guy that loved his wife and his family and the slick sales person persona was just that.

In moments like that you saw what a good actor he really was. The character was a lot of shtick - but there was a lot more to it than that.
Such a great show. One of my very favorites.
The revival, if you can find online, is a bit weird to watch but has a lot of the same cast.

The episode where Jennifer agreed to go out with him just to shut him up humanized him, too.

Plus it seemed that Herb's schemes drove many of the great episodes - Ferryman's Funeral Homes, The ever-present Red Wigglers account, and of course the turkey drop.

Isn't that the same disease Robin Williams had?

Herb was such a great character.

Herb: I had a horrible dream last night.
Everyone else: Awww!
Herb: Yeah. I dreamt that John and Jennifer really were married. There were all these little kids running around, and they all had on sweatshirts and dark glasses and three-day beards. And they all started chasing me. All the little Johnnys caught me and tied me up, and I started screaming for help, and then all the little Jennifers just ignored me! And then they grabbed my white belt and just started beating me!

...Taxi, Three's Company... the golden age of sitcoms.

RIP Frank Bonner aka Herb, thanks for all the laughs

Yes, same as Robin Williams. It is a really crappy disease, my mom has it, and I wouldn't wish it or any other type of dementia upon anyone.

Bizarre, I've had this theme song in my head all day. Loved him as Herb, huge part of the show. The other day I was remembering the episode with "Real People" when he invited the cameras into his house then tried to hide all the disfunction.

RIP Herb.

Edit: Ahh yes, Real Families. Real People was a good show too. Wow I'm getting old.
Edit 2: Actually that's wacky, why would I be thinking about that yesterday? I didn't listen to the news all day.

Now that you mention it I think I remember seeing him at a show at that dinner theatre on 42Ave and Blackfoot like 20 years ago.
