According to Oiler Twitter, they are broadcasting both games but only in their market area, same as Flames.

#Flames lines in Edmonton:
Poirier-Bennett-Foo
Glass-F.Hamilton-Cramarossa
Shinkaruk-Stajan-Lazar
Lomberg-Hrivik-Klimchuk
Looks like 4 lines of irritation to me

For anyone who watches the game in Edmonton, here's an idea: focus on the defensemen, and try to figure out which ones you think Matt Bartkowski is actually better than at hockey.
Seriously, that whole blue line is like a reality TV show competition to get onto the bottom pairing.

The away teams always seem to do better in these games than we expect.
Maybe cause its guys fighting for jobs against guys waiting for the regular season and just trying not to get hurt.

For those wondering about why Versteeg to Edm or things like that, there is a rule in pre-season that every team taking the ice has to dress a minimum of (IIRC, correct if wrong) 6 veterans. In other words some guys have to make the trip who have played XX NHL games.
Used to be that way at any rate.

I'm very interested to see Shinkaruk this year in the exhibition season. From the outside it seems like he has a mountain of competitors to climb over to make the team. Reviews of his last season in the AHL seem fairly mixed, but I can't imagine that a drop in production was what he or the organization were hoping for. He's still young, but he'll need to make a statement game in, game out to keep his name off the cut list.

15.4 Exhibition Games
(c) A Club shall be permitted to dress a minimum of eight (8) veterans for any Exhibition Game. For purposes of this Section 15.4(c), a veteran shall constitute either:
(1) a forward or defenseman who played in thirty (30) NHL Games during the previous season,
(2) a goaltender who either dressed in fifty (50) or more NHL Games or played in thirty (30) or more NHL Games in the previous season,
(3) a first round draft choice from the most recent year's Entry Draft, or
(4) any Player who has played one-hundred (100) or more career NHL Games.
|
With the roster going to Edmonton, the Flames just meet the 8 player minimum: Bennett, Glass, Cramarossa, Stajan, Lazar, Stone, Bartkowski, Lack
Hamilton and Kulak were just below the 30 game threshold last season.
The home lineup doesn't have any problem meeting the minimum.

Which is absolute b.s. When a game is available via CI or GCL so out of market fans can get access to the games that is understandable. When they are only available via the teams website restricting games to a region is basically giving the middle finger to out of market fans. We all know there will be non legal links that out of market fans will find and obviously the NHL does not get it that they are actually promoting the illegal streams they are so opposed to by restricting a game that oot fans cannot access legally.

Reason why Versteeg didn't go to Edmonton, he is covering for Tkachuk in the lines:
Derek Wills
@Fan960Wills
#Flames projected forwards vs. #Oilers:
Gaudreau-Monahan-Ferland
Versteeg-Backlund-Frolik
Mangiapane-Jankowski-Brouwer
Gazdic-Dube-Hathaway
Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
#Flames D in Calgary:
Giordano-Hamilton
Brodie-Hamonic
Valimaki-Kylington

Do they have more than one guy named Russell? Or is Kris playing forward?

I would be surprised. The Flames play six pre season games. Gulutzan has said he wants everyone in four.
