I wanted to post about Ferland as well, between Big 'Ern and Hartley Ferland is a totally different person now.

You cant be anything but ecstatic that they're keeping McGrattan around. I posted a while ago that my only caveat would be that McGrattan is so awesome we should probably be sharing him with the whole League.

Thrilled. Gotta love Big 'Ern. Now the new arena needs a bowling alley in the basement and the ribbon has to be cut by Bill Murray.

With all the WHL teams coming through Calgary, hopefully there's an opportunity for him to speak to younger players too. Often these problems start in junior.

Great addition for the Flames.

But he needs to up the training and beat that "worlds" fastest cow in their 3rd race.

I wonder if they gave the guy some backpay for helping out before being officially hired? I think this is a great idea as there's no better mentor for young players going through growing pains of a young adult than a guy that's been through it and changed his life.

Well, did Ken King make this hire? No.

Has Ken King been blathering about an arena since 2001, and only tabled a proposal in 2015? Yes.

Like everyone I like this move but like some I think the NHLPA missed something here. He seems to have a talent with difficult off-ice issues that is needed. Maybe he can do both. The 'talking to juniors' might be a good start.

I said it the last time we had a McGrattan thread. Its almost unfair that hes limited to Calgary. This guy should be employed by the League and helping every team and all their players.

The man is a Goddamned Treasure.

Awesome. I've felt for a while that Big Ern needed to be apart of the Flames front office in some capacity. Congrats good sir!

How about we just keep the bashing of anything arena related in the other thread(s)??? Wouldn't mind just getting back to slagging each other over actual hockey opinions for a while.

Going back to the Torts incident this makes me so proud of Brian.

Stopping that incident from becoming worse and keeping everyone out of trouble including Malarchuk who really wanted a piece of JT had big Ern not been there.

Congrats on the new job Brian. You have done so much more than was ever asked of you.....damn proud Flames fan right here.

His wife does a lot of charity work as well. The McGrattan's are good people, thrilled to have them around

I'd bet if someone from another team called him he'd talk to him.

This is great to see. They are great people and the community is better off for having them here and him being part of the organization

This is amazing news. No avoiding a few players getting into trouble over time, and having a guy like Grats around to help them through it will be amazing. Big safety net there.

We also have Grats to thank for the early development of Monahan. He was instrumental in his (I believe) sophomore year develoment.

Love it. One of their best moves this off-season. I love that he still lived here in the off-season the last few years. He obviously loves the city and team. He'll be a great asset I'm sure.
