maybe i can get a good recommendation from here. i'm not a watch enthusiast, though i'm in the market to buy a new one. brands don't matter so much to me, though i have a few requirements. it needs to be low profile, have the date displayed along with the time, and hopefully be lightweight as well. i have a very hard time finding a watch i like when browsing through a store, and it's difficult to determine the exact size or weight if i shop online

This is my watch. Nothing Fancy, but i think it looks good. Got it from the Fossil outlet store outside Seattle for $20 or something.

This is my daily (largely becasue it's my only) watch:

I was never big into watches, but recieved this as a gift and now feel naked without it (which will make the meeting I'm about to go to interesting as I forgot to put it on this morning). The funny part is I always thought people who owned multiple nice watches were idiots, I mean why spend that much on watches? Now I have to walk very briskly to avoid stopping by Tourneau and potentially melting my credit card. I think I'll pick up a cheaper 'weekend' (read drunk and irresponsible) watch sometime soon, probably a G-shock or something along those lines.

Forget G-Shock. When I was in Hong Kong last month the Casio Edifice line really got my attention. I think they will start to be on sale in North America this year. And yes, there are $400 Casios but they are radio tuned to global atomic clocks and solar powered for when you need to be the annual CP Christmas nerd.

I have two babies (not my pictures; random google images):

16600

116520

I love the look of Panerais and IWC Big Pilots/Portugueses but anything bigger than 40mm would look silly on me

I wear a Swatch and collect them. I have 67 right now ranging from the early 80's to current. Most of mine have been purchased from http://www.squiggly.com/ where you can see any model past or present. My current wear is called Play Again from the 2009 collection.

My favorite in my collection is called Samtgeist from the 1995 collection.

I love the creativity of Swatch and they keep perfect time.

I mix in a few other watches from time to time, but it's usual one of these two. For daily use, I usually wear this glow-in-the-dark Ball:

For special occasions, it's this Nomos Glashutte:

How are you liking the Nomos? It's one brand I've been looking at myself, as I love it's simple retro look. The one I have my eye on is the Nomos Orion.

That's a beautiful watch, as are pretty much all the Nomos watches, in my opinion. I love mine, but it's been losing about a minute per night for the past month or two, so I need to figure out what's going on with that. I don't think it's a quality issue though since it was good within about 2 seconds per day for the first several months that I owned it, but I'm still holding off on recommending them until I figure out what the problem is and how much it will cost to fix it. I assume you already know this, but Wempe is a great place to check them out in NY.

I think people like to bash Panerais because at one point people found out none of their movements were build in-house. This caused an uproar since the cheapest Panerai at the time cost at least $5k. I think Panerai was planning to change that (not sure if they did or not).

I don't really have that many in my collection now (just breitlings), but I hope to continue again next year. The watch I'm saving towards right now is the audemar piguet royal oak offshore. This will be the only watch I hope to pick up for 2011.

The one thing I really like about Panerais is the fact that the lum can double as a flash light in the dark
