Boom Monahan. He'll start strong and him and Gaudreau will be one of the better pairings in the league
Bust Jankowski and Bennett. The idiot coach will play them with pluggers and they'll both suffer. Bennett gets traded for the Flames first round pick at the deadline because the team looks like they're finishing bottom ten. Bennett goes on to become a #1C stuck behind Tavares. Hamonic also looks like a dud

Pick your booms and busts for 2017/2018 season
Boom: Bennett, he will force the coaches to put better players on his wings. I would love to see Janko and Versteeg, this wouldn't upset the other lines.
Bust: My heart says that Brouwer will have a tough year again, but I have a feeling Ferland will disappoint. He will be the bust as the top line RW. He won't be able to compete at a high enough level for all 82 games to keep up with JG and SM.
(I really hope I am wrong about Ferland and Brouwer)

Brouwer's time with the Flames has been a bust. Has anyone placed high expectations on him for this season? I dont see how predicting a dud to bust makes any sense.

Bennett has his breakout season. With or without the Brouwer anchor he's going to have a big year, and even if he does get the anchor he'll show he can overcome it.
Honourable mention to Brodie who returns to form now he has a real partner instead of Stone/Wideman/Engelland.
Bust:
Lazar shows nothing and spends much of the season in fourth-line/popcorn duty. Unnecessary loss of a second-round pick.
Honourable mention to Smith who plays at Ramo level, which doesn't ruin the Flames' season, but leaves the team again wishing for above average goaltending. Meanwhile, Darling and Raanta both shine.

Boom: Ferland. Guy is big, fast, good sense, great shot, underrated passer. Has been prone to boneheaded mistakes and struggled with consistency. This is the year he puts it all together.
Bust: None. Flames win Stanley Cup.

Ferland is almost there, it's just his shot is terrible. All chances for a breakout. He is a grit player you want for a playoff run. Johnny is looking deadly with Monahan.
As much as i'm not supposed to talk about Brouwer's pre-season performance, I don't see why he doesn't get back to the statistical norm, all signs point to no.
Jankowski looks ready to go. Stajan will contribute, but not in the same fashion but will be effective.
Tcachuk just got better and better with each game last season. I don't expect any trail off, just a slow start building like last year. Still has lots to learn, but is so motivated.

Yea that's an odd comment. Treliving said this summer he thinks Ferland has one of the best shots on the team. There are some things Ferly needs to work on (consistency, not changing his game thinking he needs to be a skill guy to mesh on the top line), but his shot isn't one of them.
