Both. I like Scheiffele a lot but Matthews is right up there with McDavid at the top. Generational franchise centre. Scheiffele isn't in the same conversation.

McDavid's performance in last year's playoffs, coupled with Crosby's historical performances in the playoffs earns Sid the right to be number 1 on the list.

I don't think it'd be unlikely to see Mony make the top 10 centers, within the next 5 seasons.

Crosby is the best center and player in the game and it's not even arguable.

I'm fine with him being underrated, but Ryan O'Reilly is a top 20 center in the NHL.

Would you care to reveal the player(s) you believe he should replace on this list?

He can have Draisaitl's slot, since Draisaitl is not obviously a NHL centre.

Every year of McDavid's career, Sidney Crosby has won the Stanley Cup and Conn Smythe trophy. But yea, McDavid is better....

That's a different question/conversation. The list is specifically "the best centre now". Scheifele is a better player now and will be the better play again next season. But to then say "not even in the conversation" is so dense all I can do is roll my eyes.

I still can't believe Matthews is a Leaf. Even when they got the first pick as a Leafs fan I expected him to be a bust. Then after his first game and the 4 goals I was so confused. Nice things can happen to Leafs fans? He seems Awesome but I still want to see how this upcoming season goes. Still...other than McDavid I wouldn't trade him for any other centre in the league.

Matthews is better than Scheifele now. Sorry man. You gotta look at the linemates too. Scheifele has Laine who is a generational talent plus Wheeler. Matthews had Hyman for the entire season and a split between Brown\Nylander.

I thought the Jets fan thing was arguing Laine is better than Matthews? Which is at least debatable. But Scheifele? Come on!

Laine is not a generational talent. There are two generational talents in the game, and that is Crosby and McDavid. They are on a completely different level than everyone else. There are some damn good players out there, it let's not get carried away with the generational talent label. It truly cheapens the classification if you start tossing every player in there.

Talk to me when Matthews is a PPG player who also kills penalties. I mean, ffs. Your making my own argument for me. If its goals that matter then Laine is better than Matthews since he scores more goals per game and only finished below due to time missed from concussion. Give me a break.

Maybe AM does continue to grow and become a top centre, but he hasn't even cracked the top 10 and was only put on 4th because he plays in Toronto.

I think what Matthews did in his first season was more impressive than McDavid in his first season. Best rookie season I've seen since Ovechkin. 40 goals from the center position in a first year is a major accomplishment.

Carter, Draisaitl, Monahan. I would take him over $10 million Kopitar too (though I feel they're pretty similar).

Stamkos is mostly a winger these days, too.
