McDavid splits the D on Brodie and Hamilton
In fact McDavid was by Hamilton and Brodie was coming on the the ice after a 25 second shift by Gio. Gio was replaced by Brodie as soon as McDavid touched the ice.

It wasn't so much splitting Hamilton and Brodie as Brodie angling in to cut off McDavid after he was around Hamilton.

There is a whole lot of dumping on Hamonic and Brodie when they were being asked to play against McDavid/Draistl/Maroon.

If they were having as bad a game as they were being blamed for maybe they should have been sheltered by the current (from the end of last season, not counting the playoffs) #1 ranking defense pair in the league.

When you break down last night, I don't think anyone is saying the Flames played well. They didn't. But the fact of the matter is that McDavid beat the piss out of the third line and the second defense pairing and not Gaudreau Monahan line.

G/M were ...

1-0 in high danger events against the Lucic/NH/Little guy line
2-1 vs the Larsson/Russell pairing
1-1 Klefbom and Benning
2-3 against the McDavid line

not a glowing night, but now owned

The third line was 0-8 against the McDavid line and that's only in 4 minutes of action. That's almost hard to do.
Yeah I guess that is the point. If your top line is just "breaking even" it's going to be a long night.

From the Oilers perspective, they battled the Flames top line to a draw, and exploited the weaker lines. Recipe for winning.

Giordano played 8:49 5 on 5 against McDavid with 44% of the shot attempts and a 3-5 split in high danger events.

Brodie was 5:51 against McDavid 5 on 5 with 33% of the shot attempts and a 1-7 split in high danger events.

So yeah the top unit did their job and the 2nd unit was sheltered, but there's not much they can do without the last change and against a guy that plays a lot.

Let your agenda go man, it doesn't fit the actual stats.

All fan bases have people like that, including mine, and it's so annoying. I hate it when Flames fans spell it Jerome Iginla. It takes two seconds and is inexcusable.

I stand corrected.

Thank you for correcting the way I saw the game.

Where did you get these statistics?

Watching the game it seemed that McDavid played a lot where the stats showed that he had low ice time game (for him). 19:32 last year he averaged 21:08 per game..

The Flames did not force them to play him more.

Funny game with ice-time: Monahan only 16:34 Gaudreau 18:23 in a game where the Flames were trailing and badly needed a goal or at least a momentum shift that the top line should provide.

If as your stats seem to indicate the top-5 unit was carrying the play it sure would have made sense to play them more and let Edmonton adapt.
