My computer won't preview icons anymore

I have a folder of .ico files that I keep around in case I want to change the look of windows or shortcuts, etc. They are just a bunch of icon packs that I downloaded.

My computer used to be able to preview the icons as if they were pictures in the folder, showing them as thumbnails or tiles or icons. Now they are all the default icon for those without any picture.

Any idea how to get my computer to preview these again?

Yes of course I've tried all of them, they all return the generic "blank" icon when it should actually show the large icons in the folder.

if its xp, download tweak ui for xp, its icon is available at the control panel that has a button that lets you rebuild your icon cache - it (shouldnt) delete any custom ones, just clear the cache that prevents them from looking OK

I've actually tried that too, this is driving me nuts. It's almost as if Explorer forgot that icon files can be previewed like jpegs
