Icon35 Islanders clear winners of CPHL Draft after adding Stankoven

UNIONDALE — Logan Stankoven is an Islander.

Scouts around the CPHL all agree: New York won the draft with its gutsy, audacious selection at the 18th spot of the first round.

Stankoven, a 5'8" centre from the Western Hockey League, joins Victor Soderstrom, Alexander Khovanov, and Janis Moser in the Islanders' rapidly growing prospect pool.

After the draft, new Islanders advisor Pierre McGuire commented very favourably about Stankoven's game.

"Logan is a tremendous goal-scorer. Used to play for the Yale Hockey Academy. Born and raised in Kamloops, plays for their WHL team now. Real ties to that area. Big heart," said McGuire. "Plays like he's 6'3", which is the size all hockey players should ideally be. Of course, Sidney Crosby, the pride of Cole Harbour and all of Nova Scotia, is only 5'11" but he plays like he's 6'11". He'd be the tallest player in NHL history if he was that big. You know, Zdeno Chara, 6'9", biggest ever, and he plays that big, but Crosby plays so big. He plays like he's eight inches taller than Stankoven, but he's only three inches taller in real life, which is what really matters, although it also matters how you play. And Sidney Crosby can play."

Onlookers named the Minnesota Wild, Buffalo Sabres, Pittsburgh Penguins, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Carolina Hurricanes as the teams with the worst showings at the 2021 draft.

But while opinions varied at the low end, everyone agreed about the Islanders' placement as the top team in all five rounds.

"Stankoven, Roulette, Savage, Wong, Katelevsky, just to name a few... the Islanders got so much value," said CPHL insider Rob MacKenzie. "Minnesota reached on Eklund, Lysell, Othmann, and especially Coronato... and I have no idea what the Pens were thinking with the Power pick."

Capitals have fired their scouts after they agreed that NYI won the Draft. We have no room for such turncoats.

I reckon you should've fired them anyway.

A video has gone viral showing the entire TB Lightning scouting department in fits over the lack of scouting talent and skill set displayed by the Islanders at the 2021 NHL entry draft. GM agulati was overheard saying that hiring Pierre McGuire had been the most boneheaded decision of the season, till theScorpion stepped on the podium and selected Logan Stankoven. “Nothing against the kid, but such a reach. Leave it to the Isles to screw up a draft when they actually have picks to make. Wouldn’t matter though since he probably gets flipped for a dozen neon shoelaces and a pair of second hand chipped skate blades.”

The loudest cheers or jeers were during the first round when Isles top target Matthew Coronato was picked just prior to the Isles heading to the podium. The leaked Islanders draft list had one name of value. To watch them miss out on that is absolutely worth the couple of hours wasted hearing their GM celebrate every fifth round pick made as the second coming of Lightning future legend Sean Couturier. Islanders should just stick to moving their future picks for AHL depth plugs like Stefan Noesen as opposed to drafting future ECHL all stars and beer league legends.

1st pick was Anaheim not Pittsburgh. We traded Brady Tkachuk to Pittsburgh for the 1st pick a few days before the draft.

Went with the safe pick in Owen Power. That year was the messed up COVID yr where nobody had a good read on where guys would go

I remember being absolutely convinced that you would pick Stankoven with one of those two picks directly in front of me. At that point, I had zero backup plan. I probably would've picked Rosen.
