Please change the thread title to Cavalry FC, or we're violently jinxing ourselves even before the season has started!

I wonder where they would have seeded Vancouver if the Fury hadn't folded? The Whitecaps weren't in the final 4 of last years tournament, and didn't win a round. It would have been reasonable to seed both Fury and Cavalry ahead of them...
Path to the final is way easier this year, likely to be exactly the same less two full rounds. Last year they beat Pacific, Forge, Whitecaps and then lost to Montreal for a finals spot. This year they skip the first round, and assuming Hamilton and Vancouver win (both likely, imo) they would then play Forge and Whitecaps on their way to the final. Skipping Pacific and Montreal is a way easier road, although neither Forge nor the Whitecaps are likely to roll over.

Ya know, the CSF actually nailed these first match-ups.
Their goal is to drive viewership/ticketsales, via rivalries, and they drew a great draw all the while maintaining a fairly distributed bracket.

The regional aspect to the draw is kind of fun - I agree they did a good job. Assuming Forge moves on it seems likely to continue building the Forge-Cavalry rivalry as well.

Excellent news. The spine of the team is shaping up nicely with all these returning players. Now just need some wingers

For wingers, I assume Pasquotti will be back since the club's social media has been showing him on their IG stories.
I think there are a few good options out there to replace Escalante since I don't think Hernandez will be a replacement. Ryan Telfer, Brett Levis, Maxim Tissot are a few names out there. Think Pepple played on the wing with Foothills last year too.

If there's one player I want back it's Pasquotti. He's a beast for this team. I hope he does, indeed, come back.
Tefler would definitely be an interesting option at wing.

Could we actually get Telfer though? I think that would be a major coup because he's basically the only player that York9 had that was useful.

Kurt Larson said he's received offers from multiple CPL teams. Probably not a big chance but still a chance.
I like Maxim Tissot personally and he's free after the Fury situation. Was a good winger for the Impact and the Fury before mostly being used as a LB the last 3 years. Versatility is good with a small roster though.

Anyone get any Cavs stuff for Christmas? I received a black Macron hoodie! 2XL fits me well, but I usually wear XL or L!
I also received a book- "Soccer in Sun and Shadow."
Merry Christmas, fellow Cavs fans!

I tried to buy Cavs scarves for people for Christmas, but that is a hot ticket item. They've been sold out for weeks and won't have any until January. I suppose that is a damn good thing, they can't keep Cavs merch on the shelves!

Expansion "news" from the commissioner. From what I have heard the four cities / areas referenced are Fraser Valley, Saskatoon, Kitchener-Waterloo and Quebec. Really hoping Saskatoon happens soon as we need another doable road trip.
Quote:
You mentioned expansion, so where do we stand with new teams coming into the league?
We have over 20 different regions, cities, potential owner groups that are talking to us. Over time some fall off and time will distill those that are really serious. (But) there are four groups right now that we are really excited about; I’ll say the West Coast, the middle of the Prairies, in (Quebec) and Ontario-based. There are some very interesting plays at large there.
That’s one of those things where the sun, moon and the stars all have to align and then it can happen. That’s the optimist in me, and the glass is always half full in my world – it’s never half empty. I think we’ve got a nice run up to 2026 where we’ve always said if we can be between 14 and 16 teams … that’s very doable by 2026.
