'It is terribly unfair to question George Parros' professionalism........'
No, it's not, NHL.

If I were the Rangers I would take out $250,000 in pennies and dump it at the NHL office in New York with a sign that said “worth every penny”.

The NHL is becoming more of a joke every single day. The Rangers were 100% right in calling out George Parros.
I honestly wish this happened more often. Call out the league, call out the officials. They should be held accountable for their ***** ass decisions.

Yeah nothing about Gary's history suggests he was going to let this go unpunished.

Makes sense if you assume the department exists to protect the NHL from lawsuits and to partially isolate the league from this stuff, not to actually protect the players.

The precident was Doug Wilson and the Sharks being fined 100K for criticizing the Rafi Torres suspension in 2013.

Wilson is an idiot, but Panarin initiated (without a helmet on).
I didn't see what happened as a flagrant foul from Wilson in the scope of what he's done in his career. My opinion.
The Rangers could have sent a strong statement, minus the personal calling for someone to lose their job. Really unprofessional to go where they did, if you ask me.

When was the last time someone initiated a scuffle and the response was trying to slam their head into the ice?

As long as the league continues to employ dinosaurs like Colin Campbell in executive positions the league is always going to operate in spite of themselves. Hiring George Parros as Senior Vice-President of Player Safety is the equivalent of the NFL hiring Vontaze Burfict to direct NFL player safety. You can't make this stuff up.

I just see it as hyperbole. It could have been a minor suspension, but it's just been so much discussion around an incident that's been overblown, in large part due to the an overly emotional reaction from the Rangers.

Well you're wrong. This is a consistently dangerous player that does stupid #### all the time and nothing is being done about it.

Wilson sucker punches 2 guys on the ice before pulling panarins head back by his hair, pushing him over his own knee and slamming him down...Panarin engages wilson after he sees the second sucker punch. If any flames player did not engage we would be up in arms.

Even though it's not related, the NHL is rightfully last place in the major leagues of America - and quite frankly not really on the mind of them at all - because the NHL is bush league when it comes to discipline in it's game. The system for both in game penalties and post game discipline is broken.
The league lacks tremendous integrity.

I'm still surprised the NHL went with only $5,000. If they didn't think the play was worthy of missing games - which I disagree with - they should have fined him the maximum of $10,000 with a hearing where they could have warned him for the 25th time to stop putting them in tough positions.
To just give him a $5,000 fine was a big miss.

The NHL just had to suspend Wilson for the rest of the regular season. 6 games? The Rangers would been fine with it.

Wilson knocked his helmet off after engaging (he didn't initiate without a helmet on), then followed it up with slamming him on the ice, punching him in the head, and slamming him to the ice again.
It's telling to me that most of the people criticizing the Rangers here obviously did not watch the play or feel the need to purposely misrepresent what happened. For what? Bootlicking the NHL? They don't care about you.

They knew releasing the statement would get them a fine.
I hope other teams are supporting them behind the scenes though. The irony is that now that the Rangers made this news, the league can't fire Parros, at least not right away, without looking like complete hypocrites. The Rangers probably gave him more job security than he would have had if they could have gathered support from other teams and dealt with it in a quiet manner.
I loved that they had the balls to call him out publicly though and completely agree with them.
