Wasn't Dolan, one of the most powerful owners in the league, always one of bettmans biggest backers in the past? Or am I misremembering that? This kind of feels like a bite the hand that feeds moment to me.

Edit: never mind total opposite, dolan has wanted to turf Bettman since 2012 https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.spo...forcer/sn-amp/

I'd call this a 1-2 game suspension MAX.
He slams him to the ice twice. There's no interpretation, no characterization, that is exactly what happened.

Here's what actually happened, in order, so you're not confused:

- Net front battle, Buchnevich (sp?) goes down, falling on Wilson's stick.
- Wilson, now on top of Buchnevich who is face down on the ice, punches him.
- A Ranger's play see's Wilson punch him, and goes to pull Wilson off.
- A Caps player then jumps on the Rangers player, pulling him off Wilson.
- Wilson gets up, and punches the Rangers player laying on the ice.
- Panarin see's Wilson punching, and wraps his arms around him from behind.
- Other players get involved, Wilson and Panarin end up locked up face to face.
- Wilson pushes Panarin's helmet off, and then slams head first him to the ice.
- Wilson then punches Panarin while he's on top of him.
- Panarin tries to get up, and Wilson slams him to the ice again.
- The refs jump on Wilson, and while they do, Wilson is still on top of Panarin, still throwing punches to a guy on the ice without a helmet.

Any indication that Panarin initiated without a helmet or that he initiated at all, in fact, is BS. Wilson is responsible for the entire thing. It was literally a series of situations Wilson initiated where multiple players tried to pull him off someone he was on top of and punching, and he switched his aggression to focus on them.

Wilson is solely responsible, Wilson repeatedly endangered players in compromising positions, Wilson is a repeat offender, and Wilson should have been suspended for the rest of the season.

I still can't believe Wilson wasn't suspended.

The $5k fine is so damn funny. It's more of a reward than a deterrent.

Player fines aren't even fines. They're donations to less fortunate players. Wilson's punishment was literally a forced $5K donation to his own brotherhood.

I have no issue with the fine to the Rangers, the league had no choice IMO, you have to do that. You can't have teams making comments like that with no action (as much as I agree with the comments and actually applaud them for doing so)

As many are mentioning, the issue is with what put them in this position, which is the joke of a reaction to Wilson's act.......... They need to figure out where they want to go as a league. Are they ready to make the jump to get hard on folks like Wilson who overtly use the line and the grey area when it comes to the rules and injuring their opponent, and accept the minor consequences that currently come from occasionally crossing that line because the net benefit to himself and his team is positive overall. Or do they finally want to put player safety first and get rid of that garbage?

Clearly they aren't ready yet.......which is disappointing, because it feels to me like most of the fans finally are.

So for anyone questioning how much slamming there was - this is pretty obviously a heinous slam job isn’t it? Or does a true slam require the crotch/shoulder grip body slam Stampede Wrestling technique to be considered a slam?

Time for some Bryan Marchment justice.

What is so frustrating about this. Is we are 17 years removed from the Todd Bertuzzi / More incident............and the way the NHL handled Wilson here show's we've made 0 progress on that front since that occurred.

IMO, what Wilson did had a far more likely chance of causing serious injury than what Bertuzzi did (neither good at all). One got lucky (or unlucky) the other didn't. If that head hits the ice the other night.........outside of the potential serious injury (or even death) that would have come, the NHL would be on the mat right now explaining it's self once again for not addressing violence in the sport.

I'm shocked they can't wrap their heads around that........Wilson is going to put them in that position before his career is done at this rate.....and unlike with Bertuzzi there is going to be a laundry of opportunities the NHL had to stop the worst from happening with that player that they chose not to take before it was too late.

Yeah. If Wilson kills someone next year, how is it going to look when the victim's family shows the statement from the Rangers in court/the media?

Will the NHL be willing to trot out Parros to make a video showing it was just a hockey play then?

they certainly don't do themselves any favors...a ONE game suspension to Wilson (too short in my opinion) would have calmed it down 99%

One team had clinched and the other was out of it

How does 250K against the Rangers compare to 5k for Wilson?
Slap on the wrist for both parties, I'd say.
