4-1! Very important for Croatia to score having conceded an away goal. It will take a debacle in Athens now, for Croatia not to go to Russia.

big 20 minutes for Italy
they cant let the Swedes score, but they also have to try and get a goal, tough to ask for a clean sheet at home, and no Veratti in the 2nd leg

Italy just has no finish in the final 3rd - Insigne should be on the pitch.
Coaching has been terrible throughout the entirety of qualifying IMO.

England holding the Germans at Wembley, potential World Cup Final right here.

Has a coach ever been fired between playoff games.....
Really I guess I shouldn't be too sad if Italy misses, no chance in hell of them winning the WC next year anyways. Would at least give them a head start on a lot of the revamps they need to make to their federation.

weird formation, weirder use of players
they do have the talent to attack, I still think id have them slight favorites but thats assuming they play to their talent

Pickford should obviously be England's number one next summer. Starting Hart should result in an automatic dismissal.

Australia vs Honduras ended in a score less draw. I'm a little conflicted over this one. On one hand leaving Honduras with a draw is a big victory but on the other the Socceroos were the better team with greater possession and more chances and this was a big missed opportunity.

Not sure if you follow Canada in soccer at all but things can go much worse than that in Honduras.
New Zealand are 0-0 with Peru at 72 minutes. Great atmosphere in Wellington but pretty dull game on the pitch so far.
edit: game finishes 0-0. Some half chances towards the end but no finish for either team.

Kind of disappointing to see zero goals in both inter-confederation playoffs.
Yeah I'm well aware games in Honduras have been a disaster for Canada and other CONCACAF teams. The Aussies didn't let the crowd get to them though and even managed to quiet things down by controlling the play. I'm really happy with the result but still it was a game they could have won. I'm looking forward to the game in Sydney, if the Roos play as well as they did today they will be in the World Cup.
Are you happy with the All Whites result? Considering it is 10th vs 113th in the world I'd say a draw is positive. It will be very tough for the Kiwis in Peru but at least they have a chance.

Yeah I mean they were very well structured and kept the danger to a minimum so have to recognise that. It will be a lot harder to pull off a result away, but they are in it for sure. Chris wood didn't come on until late as he's been nursing an injury but the attack was so much more confident in the last 10-15 minutes. Who knows what might happen if they can snag an away goal.
Although as I've posted in this thread, I'm not very invested in kiwi football because of my canadian jealousy.

I'm torn about Italy-Sweden.
On one hand, it would be awesome for a Zlatan-less Sweden to upset 4 time world champs. His attitude pisses me off.
On the other hand, I love Buffon and it would be amazing to see him play in another finals.
A couple of Zlatan quotes that reiterate my point:
“Now, when I am not a part of the team they are playing with less pressure. People are expecting less. When I was there everyone expected that the team would win the World Cup or the Euros. My impression is that that has changed now and that they will play without any pressure whatsoever and have nothing to lose.
“If I listened to my ego then Sweden would, of course, be a better team with me,” added Ibrahimovic. “But the team has done it really well so far, secured second place in a difficult group [ahead of Holland] and been given this chance to play in the play-offs. The strength of this team is the group.”

No.
I never expected Sweden to win a World Cup or Euro, with or without him.
There is pressure in every WC qualifying match, doesn't matter who you are. He's saying there's no pressure whatsoever for the team. That is hooey.
A 36 year old Zlatan wouldn't "of course" make Sweden better. Its debatable.
His last sentence is true though.

That being said though, if the Swedes knock off the Italians we all expect Zlatan to come out of retirement and play right?
