Default Walkie Talkie Suggestions Needed

I need help but know nothing about walkie talkies.

My work requires me to test an item. That item causes an audible alarm in a room on the other side of the building. So, I test the item and need to run to the other room to hear the alarm then run back to the item, test it once again and then run back to the room again. I do this about 2 dozen times per day and would like to cut down on the back and forth.

I tried zip tying the walkie talkies that my kids have but they turn off after 10 seconds. They were a cheap set anyway.

I basically am looking to use walkie talkies similar to how a baby monitor works. Are there ones that I could place one in the alarm room and have it as always "talking" and open, while the other one, on my person, is always listening? Then, when I do my test and the alarm rings, I would just hear it on my walkie talkie instead of having to run back and forth?

I know nothing about these. The picture below is last pair of walkie talkies I used (they were super amazing too)
Any suggestions? Bonus points if its something I can get from Amazon.

Edit: I'm not allowed to have my phone in the "item" area so cell phones are a no go.

If you have wifi, get an old cheap phone and put Fongo or something on it and just open a call.

If you want something that works like a baby monitor, why not get a baby monitor?

Also, if a phone isn't allowed, why is a walkie talkie?

Id totally be open to a baby monitor. I'm not able to use an outlet though so that's why I thought of batteries/rechargeable walkie talkies.

Have you considered commercial grade 2 way radios?

Does the fact that I just assumed they were the same thing show how little I know about this stuff? I'm open to anything and will google that right now. Thanks.

I think most baby monitors have batteries.

The part the the parent holds usually has a battery, the camera part that goes in the baby room usually does not.

I'm gonna guess that he sets up hostage rooms, and needs to make sure no internal sounds escape.

The first one is rechargeable, has 18hrs of life and costs $50.

What about a FM radio transmitter?

The problem is needing the transmitter side on a battery, not many will last long constantly transmitting. Ideally if you could get a raspberry PI in there running on low power, monitoring for the alarm THEN transmitting that would be good. But having a radio transmitter going constantly won't last a day unless you have a big battery. How many walls does it need to transmit through and what distance?

What about using a power bank to provide the power? That way (assuming wifi) you could get something like a mobile security camera with sound and visual on the other side that sends info to your phone to where you are?

I'm kinda confused why you can't bring a phone in but can bring all sorts of equipment that does audio and visual transmission...

How far apart are these rooms?

In the "no cell phone" room. What about a bluetooth piece on a phone in the room next door/nearby ?

I think most BT headsets are between 10-30 feet. However, the moment there's a wall in between the headphone/headset and the phone/tablet, you get interference/connectivity issues.

Logical idea, but I don't think it will work for OP. I'm guessing his range would need to be much further.
