It appears that close games are the flavour of the OOT. The eastern games were won by one goal.

The Centre Ice games have the Stars coming back, but, falling short against the BJs. The Sabres-Ducks game is at 2000h and the Hurricanes-Sharks is at 2030h.

Alex Chiasson finally gets his first point of the season.

Neal has taken away all of his offense.

Edit: oh just kidding, Neal gets the assist instead. Only furthers the point

That was Neal’s assist - so I guess he literally took that one from Chiasson.

This Olofsson guy is absolutely lethal from the right circle.

2-0 Sabres.

Olofsson scores again.

His 8th career goal in 13 career games, all on the PP.

On a side note, just goes to show you how arbitrary a stat "points" are. There are times, like last night with Lucic, where a 3rd assist may have been deserved, amd there are times where even the goal itself seems to be pure cooincidence after a puck hits your pants. It will be interesting to see if we ever arrive at better ways of measuring individuals' offensive impact.

I have a feeling that xGF will get there, one day. But yeah, we're still a ways off from a comprehensive WAR-like stat. Maybe puck and player tracking will help with that.

I am not so confident in that

xGF% considers events that happen while all 5 skaters are on the ice, not discriminating between skaters, while conventional points have the benefit of isolating the people who touched the puck

xGF% uses things like shot counts etc. to predict which team is more likely to score, and you isolate an individual vs peers by his overall xGF% and that is going to be over a long period of time with various line mates, so guys are differentiated somewhat from the pack over time, and imply offensive results but don’t actually factor in the actual scoring

Meanwhile conventional stats only go to the guys who actually get points. Too bad, the third passer, or the screen don’t always get recognized, but it’s a lot more correlative than the stats which infer offensive likelihood from on ice events

I'm starting to believe in the Tippet system. Sit back, get shelled, run around in your own end and cash in on the hail mary play. Repeat.

Philly all over EDM and then an alley oop pass and mclotteryball scores on a terrible, lazy play by braun. 3 goals on 11 shots. Oil being outshot 24 to 11 by a team on back to back. Should not be winning.

Pretty sure it’s Chiasons first game. He was sick and in the press box.

Pretty shot by Hopkins.

Confidence again showing how key it is to a team's success. Oilers have been meh this game but are going to win strictly based on being able to finish... Confidence.

On another note, it would be real cute if Hopkins prices himself outta Edmonton.

Hart just wanted to give his home town team the win. Amirite?

Talk about a gong show. Oilers shooting percentage is insane.
