That's what I found most interesting about the Hunger Games. Katness living or dying, the Peeta/Gale love triangle for me were secondary to how society was set up, the role of the Hunger Games in PanAm, the socio-economic structure. The books are so much more than man vs man, the first movie has it between the lines but not like the books.
I'm curious as I haven't decided if I'll check out Battle Royale yet or not.

I watched the first movie, and noticed the whole political/economic supression stuff, but only a little bit. I was really impressed when I read the books and saw that stuff fleshed out a lot more.
Especially the real impact that Rue's death had, and what it all really meant.

I really enjoyed Battle Royale, I stumbled on it purely by accident about 7 years ago, I didnt really like the first Hunger Games movie but the book was pretty good.
Hunger Games and Battle Royale are pretty similar but they're also very different. In BR you were more invested in the individual characters, the social aspect of the world they lived in was just accepted and they moved on with the job of killing each other.

I liked the catching fire movie better than the book. I think this is because they put forced love triangle into the background and focused more on how the hunger games affected the surrounding society. This gives me hope, as I found the 3rd book very rushed and the author was not able to use the first person perspective to tell the bigger universe story she was trying to tell.

Saw it yesterday and loved it. Not surprising as I love the books and love Jennifer Lawrence. They had double the budget for this one compared to the first, and it showed. I watch it knowing I'm biased so I try to find something negative, but my only issues are with deviations from the book, which aren't really a fault of Catching Fire as a film. 5 out of 5.
Third book has some issues and is inferior to the first two. A lot could go wrong because they're splitting it in two, but the cast is so good that I'm not concerned.

I haven't seen this one, but I liked the first one enough.
Both my wife and sister read the books and they said the 2nd one was the most disappointing to them, but by most accounts it translated well to film.

Saw it with my wife last night, I've the read the books and she has not. Her opinion on Katniss:
"She kind of sucks."
Based on that alone I think the movies are doing a good job showing how she is really just a pawn in the larger game, and horribly broken from PTSD.
They had a much bigger budget this time around and it showed, really like the new casting choices for the victors that got lots of screen time (particularly Finnick, real good choice there).
I'm very curious to see how they break the last book up into two movies, I definitely think it can be done no problem, just interested to see where they choose to break it up.
