Beastie Boys - Slow and Low too.
I like it, it's aptly titled.

It could be Rhymin and Stealin, I'll have to listen to them. Definitely Rick's influence.
Edit: That is Slow and Low in the intro, or maybe I just want to hear it so I hear it...

Never really been a fan, but I do respect Eminem. He's 41 years old and doesn't seem like it at all. I wonder how long he can last with this image without becoming a satire of himself.

He's the "legendary" act of the late 90's - early 10's. He's probably got another good 5 years of solid album making. 3 albums give or take?
Even his worst albums were huge.
He'll be remembered as an icon.
Also, this song is sort of growing on me after 4 or 5 listens.

He'll never have that sound again. No matter what the new album is called.

Seriously, how can you guys like this song? The production is good but the lyrics are laughable.
"So come get on this kids rock, baw wit da baw, bang bang
P-p-p-pow pow chicka wow wow
Catch a cab, I wanna go down, br-bow-bow
Slow it down, throw in the towel, t-t-towel towel
Dumb it down, I don't know how, how, how, how"
Terrible. I guess if he was going for a more fun approach then it's alright but he has came with the fun approach way better than this.

I don't want to pick on Eminem here but "Just Lose It" doesn't really contain lyrical genius either:
Quote:
Bend down, touch your toes and just glide
Up the center of the dance floor
Like TP for my bunghole
And it's cool if you let one go
Nobody's gonna know, who'd hear it?
Give a little "poot poot", it's OK! [Fart Sound]
Oops my CD just skipped
And everyone just heard you let one rip
|
And I know Magna Carta isn't exactly the Rap pinnacle these days, but Tom Ford is a good track and the chorus is "I don't pop molly I rock Tom Ford", two ideas that really have nothing to do with eachother.

A comparison to Just Lose It is not a flattering one, as Just Lose It is a terrible song.

Tom Ford is by far the best hip hop track to have been released so far this year.
Mr. Shady Reborn may have something to say about that before the year is done, though.

Song is terrible after more listens sounds like a mash up of garbage with horrible lyrics and screaming.
Hopefully the album is good and sounds nothing like this garbage.

Pretty terrible song. I liked the "Survival" tune a lot better.
Have any of you seen him live? He's not great. I saw him two/three years ago and it was pretty boring. He had a really noticeable backing track that was really distracting and he only played new stuff. He threw in one "medly" of old stuff near the end, but everything else was the last two albums.
Ending with "Lose Yourself" was pretty bonkers though.

I wouldn't expect much from a rap show?
But the clips of his earlier tours look pretty theatrical... It was probably the Ecstasy.

Good production for a mashup type song. It's too all over the place though, much like Kanye's album earlier this year - at least this one track is all over. Rick Rubin is a highly regarded all round producer, but his rap stuff is a hit or miss. In this case, the Marshall Mathers Eminem doesn't suit the production. I hope there's more Recovery than MM which was good when the guy was 30.

His rapping on this album is insane. Too bad the melodies aren't up to par. It's not a bad album to me, but just lacking melody (it's more a showcase of his crazy rapping abilities). I do like Headlights though, as it has a classic sound with rapping overtop it, and he showed that best on Recovery. The Marshall Mathers persona is immature and decade outdated though, and Rhyme or Reason for instance, it had good production and a good sample to use, but to use the MM persona on there kinda ruined it.

Eminem may not have the strongest lyrical content but his flow is his own sound and it sells CD's by the millions.
First time i heard Berzerk i was hooked.
I don't think enough Rap songs use past classic samples and put a twist on it enough.
What i like about Eminem is he has his own thing going on when he let's go on a CD and it hasn't changed.
So many rappers especially the Dirty South scene are imitations of one another. I think they are stale for the most part and have an expiry date.
I used to think that when Eminem first came out he sounded like Everlast but he doesn't Eminem has created his own sound which is hard to do when the genre has been around since the late 70's.
The only knock i have on Eminem is his staring off into space with zero emotion after a performance.
I get it, he has created this character and it is part of the persona but it just seems odd to me.
