Default Flair Air unlimited travel option

https://globalnews.ca/news/6510388/f...=GlobalCalgary

Quote:
The unlimited flight pass costs $700 and opens the gate to limitless domestic flights between Feb. 13 and May 13 and includes one checked bag.

A $500 version has some blackout dates and excludes flights on Fridays and Sundays, as well as baggage.

The blackout dates are Feb. 14 to 17 (Family Day long weekend), March 20 to 30 (spring break), and April 10 to 13 (Easter long weekend).

Both versions of the pass do not include taxes and fees and the flights must be booked at least 48 hours in advance. Flair said the travel pass is not transferable.

Edmonton-based Flair offers routes between seven cities, all in Western Canada except for Toronto.
Interesting promotion but I wonder what airport fees are for Abbotsford Calgary Winnipeg etc

My big question is does that include a 'carrier surcharge'?

Kind of like how Aeroplan has free flights, but you still have to pay about half the cost of the ticket due to the carrier surcharge and airport fees.

The federal government needs to step in and eliminate the carrier surcharge. It's just a way for airlines to get around discount codes and loyalty redemption.

Can I put my Canada 3000 and JetsGo passes towards this pass?

Blackouts for Fridays and Sundays means it's only doable for people who can travel midweek, not really that good for anyone looking for the odd weekend trip

Unlimited delays and lost luggage too. I won't ever fly that airline. They have no capacity to adjust to aircraft or crew problems.

The $500 pass has this restriction. The $700 pass does not.

If I'm looking at the Westjet buddy pass as a comparable, due to the airport fees and taxes and whatnot, often times, you're saving a few hundred per trip on the buddy pass. I'm guessing the situation is similar for this Flair pass. It's unlimited travel, but with the fees and whatnot, the actual savings per round trip is around $100-200? This means you'd have to fly 4-6 times in 3 months to make the pass worthwhile is my pure guess. This not taking into account the stupid fees for check in luggage these guys charge and their weird restrictions on carry on.

Agreed. But at least we're starting to see some more competition and price pressures for Air Canada and West Jet.

Right near the top of the OP it does say it includes one checked bag.

I've used Flair a few times, and they saved me $300 this week on an emergency trip over what WestJet was going to be. Especially short flights like Calgary to Winnipeg- I don't need any frills; just a seat and a place to put my duffel bag. (Under the seat in front.)

Isn’t this usually a sign of an undercooked airline on the verge of bankruptcy as oppose to a disruptive new model?

Doesn't sound too appealing to me. If it covered all costs, it might be okay, but the fees will add to quite a bit, I'm sure. Also, I wonder how available the flights will be?

I'm genuinely curious why you say they suck? The first time I flew them I was apprehensive due to a low review average, but then reading the reviews- most of the negative comments were due to the person not understanding the no frills nature of the airline.

Anyway, I did the quick math. I flew Flair this week and from Winnipeg to Calgary there was a total of $34 in fees that were part of the fare:
Purchase Summary
Leg Passenger Description Amount GST Total
1 0042,KEN YWG Arpt Improve Fee $25.00 $1.25 $26.25
1 0042,KEN NN - Regular Economy $138.35 $6.92 $145.27
1 0042,KEN Security Charge ATSC $7.12 $0.36 $7.48
Total $170.47 $8.53 $179.00

So assuming that the AIF is similar between airports, that would be $70 round trip. If I could fly every other weekend, that would be 7 trips in that span. It would average out to $170 round trip per weekend. With the flight I took being 2/3 full- that might be a good way for Flair to fill those seats and generate a little extra money.

The $700 seems like the better deal, but worthwhile if you have to make a lot of trips to those destinations anyway.

My question remains: what are the airport fees.

Depends on the airport.

I get that, I guess I want a list given there are only like 6 airports involved. If it's just the $30 AIF for YYC plus taxes, fine. If they're adding on a bunch of other charges that bump the price up to $50+ each way, that deal becomes far less attractive.

If you actually want your question answered, there is a simple solution that will take under 5 minutes to achieve. Go to their website. Attempt to book round trip flights. See the price breakdown between flight, fees, and taxes. Done. Now that we've conquered the most difficult question on CP, we can move onto the second most difficult which is what type of soap should someone buy.

The problem is that many times airlines will have various surcharges and the base fare will be very low. So if all you are getting is the base fare and you are paying half of what the flight would typically cost in "fees" it's not such a great deal. If it's truly only AIF and taxes, that's a better deal. I don't care enough to look into it, but if anyone is considering buying the pass, they should.

My other concern would be availability. I find that places that take your money up front and promise you something in the future tend not to have availability when you want to use it.
