Flames assign Keegan Kanzig and Emile Poirier to Abbotsford Heat

CALGARY, AB -- The Calgary Flames announced today that they have assigned defenceman Keegan Kanzig and forward Emile Poirier to the Abbotsford Heat of the American Hockey League.

Kanzig, a native of Athabasca, Alberta, played in 63 games with the Victoria Royals (WHL) this season, and registered a career high of eight points (3-5-8) and 99 penalty minutes. Kanzig was selected in the third round (67th overall) by the Calgary Flames in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

Really curious what the Abbotsford roster is going to look like in their playoff run...

This should be getting more action. Poirier is one of our best prospects. Hope he tears it up for the Heat. Am I correct in assuming that this doesn't burn a year of either of their ELCs?

Doubt that's up to date.

WHL site has him at 6'1" and 185lbs.

5'11" 165lbs was his draft size IIRC

EDIT: ...and the Flames site has him at 6'1" and 190 lbs.

Same. I'm looking forward to seeing how his game translates vs a tougher level of competition. I think it will be a good gauge to see where he stands.

I don't think he's going to disappoint.

So Kanzig will just be a black ice and will probably not get any games in (barring injury)? You guys will have to let us know how he looks like in practices at least! Physically he is more than ready to turn pro, but really curious as to how close he is to doing so in terms of skill.
