wranglers Ranking AHL Arena's

http://www.stadiumjourney.com/news/0...rena-rankings/

The AESC ranked 29/30 on the survey. The new home at the Glen Falls Civic Centre ranks 16/30.

Best arena is Van Andel Arena, home to Grand Rapids. The worst arena is Androscoggin Bank Colisee, home of the Portland Pirates. Of note, the Androscoggin Bank Colisee was a one year only temporary home for the Pirates as their actual arena got behind on renovations and a contract dispute.

I reckon it's ranked 29th because of its (lack of) atmosphere. It's a beautiful small-ish arena though. My favourite part is that the ice is made of recycled rain from the roof. Such a neat and innovative aspect.

Mile One Centre - Home of the St. John's IceCaps
The building sits in the heart of downtown St. John's, a beautiful area that's rich with culture and nightlife. Very few arenas in the world, much less the AHL, can offer both a view of the Atlantic Ocean and the greatest party street outside of Las Vegas within walking distance of the building. Mile One does.
Nothing but good to say about it but still it ranks 27th, strange rankings.

If you click on the arena's they show a breakdown of the ratings as well as pictures and a better write-up as to why they rated as such.

Food and Beverage 3/5
Atmosphere 3/5
Neighbourhood 2/5
Fans 2/5
Access 3/5
Return on Investment 2/5 (Ticket prices are too expensive for level of hockey)
Extra's 2/5 (Mascot, Programs, Merchandise)

I guess that explains this picture. I was confused.

Strange ratings.

First, fans and atmosphere kind of go hand-in-hand. Unless they're talking about the presentation, which I can see getting a 3/5. Neighbourhood should be a 4/5 considering there's a bar on one side of the building and a university on the other. Highway access is a block away. Return on investment is woefully low. Ticket prices are far below what they should be for the level hockey. $14 got you a ticket to see part-time NHLers and potential stars.

Eh, whatever.

I think there are a couple of things that factor in to that rating. 1) It's Calgary Flames minor league team and not one of the "elite" NHL teams in the league. I'm sure the fact that Grand Rapids gets a 4 star rating for their pricing has somewhat to do with the fact you are paying to see Detroit Red Wings prospects.

I couldn't find any current stats (and couldn't make my own due to the ticket prices on websites being taken down for the most part) but there was something about this from 2011-12 showing the low/high ticket prices for each team. Abbotsford does come out one of the most expensive teams to purchase tickets for (although the prices are in CDN, not USD like the US Teams)

Spoilers due to size of charts

Spoiler!

Spoiler!

Note: I should state I don't disagree with you. I'm paying $22 or something for a ticket to the Calgary Hitmen. $14 for a decent seat for the Heat would have been an acceptable price to me and a good value. I have no issues with $20 or so a ticket for WHL.

I would like to see an update to the scoreboard. That thing is looking rough.
