Default The New Clapper in Town

#4 with a bullet!

Anyone else reeeeeeally excited to see Andersson hammering those one-timer clappers on the PP? Man, I haven't been this excited about a powerplay QB since the first few times I saw MacInnis winding up every time the puck came his way...

(No, I'm not saying Andersson's shot is anywhere near as hard as one of the most legendary shooters of all-time. I'm just comparing their willingness to use it.)

Edit: You beautiful friggin Swede, you.
Spoiler!

It was good to see him taking more shots as the second game vs Vancouver went on. He hit the post at one point and caused a rebound that led to Lindhom's goal. He's got a cannon and establishing it as a threat forces the pk to respect it instead of focusing so much on the flank guys. Hopefully he keeps shooting.

I thought this post was going to be about Johnny's cute little slapshot he's been showing off lately.

Johnny's shot is so slow. I can get up and go made popcorn before it hits the net... why does his backhand seem harder and faster than his slapshot?

Ordered his jersey in 2021 (retro) away colors just before the season started. Gonna be my favorite for a while I think.

Darren Haynes did a deep dive on the Flames PP on the Athletic (I think Francis wrote about it as well but frankly I didn't bother to read it). There are a number of points made but I'll focus on the aforementioned Andersson:

Quote:
3. Andersson “awesome” on the attack

When the coaches met in the offseason to discuss the best candidates to be the point man on PP1, they all agreed that Andersson should get that opportunity.

It’s looking like the right choice.

“He’s learning every day, I’m working with them every day on it, the other guys on the unit are working with them every day, but he has the intangibles to be that guy. It’s just getting comfortable with all the different sets and all the different options and how we like to do things, and against who and how we operate against different teams,” Edwards said. “He understands the concepts. It’s just a matter of getting the looks and the touches to feel comfortable doing it.”

<< much more but I'll respect the paywall >>
Interestingly, the article later mentions the fact that Andersson has a right shot and how that subtly changes the dynamic (including passing lanes to lefties Monahan and Tkachuk). In past years, the D man has always been a lefty (Brodie, Gio, Gustafsson).

Rasmus is great. I love his mean streak.

Flames have needed a consistent bomb from the point since Wideman left. Gio has a half-assed slapper. Monahan has a decent one but very rarely uses it and never from the blueline. Lindholm has a decent one from the cirle. But overall it's never been weapon on the bluelines PP's repertoire since Wideman left and it's been sorely missed.

If Andersson can utilize it as a threat from the blueline, that will go a long way to keeping the PP consistent.

Can anyone comment if some of the other young D like Valimaki or Kylington have one?

You know who has a deceptively hard shot? Nesterov. I bet he has the hardest shot on the team....

His only goal for Montreal was an absolute cannon blast:
