Default Who was the other team that offer sheeted RoR back in 2013?

Yes this may bring up old discussions and beating a dead horse etc. The title of the thread is clear, and if you don't want to discuss the topic, no one is forcing you to look at this thread.

In an Athletic piece on offer sheets, RoR's agent revealed that there was another offer sheet on the table when ROR signed the Calgary one. He won't reveal the other team.

Quote:
Finally, it all came to a head at the end of February 2013, when O’Reilly signed a two-year offer sheet with the Flames worth $10 million. It became a huge story in the world of hockey. What wasn’t known at the time is that O’Reilly was sitting on a pair of offer sheets.

“It’s seldom known but Ryan O’Reilly was getting two offer sheets on the day he signed with Calgary,” Morris told The Athletic on Tuesday.

Of course, that raises a huge question.

“You’ll never know the other team,” Morris answered.

It all seems like a lifetime ago. Multiple teams involved in offer sheets. A good, young center nearly pried away from the team that drafted him. Of course, the Avalanche quickly matched. Good friend Chris Johnston later reported it would have been a disaster for Calgary if the Avs hadn’t.

If you repeat it enough times, Feaster was never a GM for the Flames.

I love hearing these stories. This one I don't. First because I want to know the whole thing, not just this little snippet. But second because it what a complete cluster____ and could have been tragic on how it affected the Flames.

It was probably Buffalo.

At the time I remember the second offer sheet being ‘reported’ as being from Vancouver. I don’t remember the source though, it might have just been internet rumours.

Florida? It wouldn't be Tallon's first screwup.

Well, that offseason, Gillis fired AV, hired Torts (and GG), traded Schneider (and Luongo later in the season). However, I don't think they had money to spend on ROR.

Yeah, Vancouver for some reason sounds familiar. Although, I also seem to remember Feaster mentioning that there were more than a couple teams during his defense of the MoU.

This seems familiar. I don't remember if it was an article, or talked about on a panel or Feaster mentioning it in an interview or just plain old forum discussion, but I certainly do remember that the Flames weren't the only team interested in offer sheeting RoR.

Who had the draft picks, cap space, need for a 1C and a gambling GM

Bet it can be narrowed down to less than 8-10 teams

Without Jay, we might not get Monahan and almost certainly don't get Gaudreau.

Monahan was a can't miss and the decision was ultimately made for the Flames at #6.

Without Todd Button we don't get Gaudreau.

Depends, if we still have Sutter then we don't get Gaudreau. I don't know why it's so hard to give Feaster credit for anything.

Feaster didn't scout. That's why.

I'm not going to give him credit for discovering a talent when he didn't, and for giving the ok to pick the kid in the 4th round.

With Jay we almost lost Monahan for a guy who couldn't play in the NHL for the rest of that year! Thank god the Avs matched.

Didn't he also want to trade every pick in that draft for MacKinnon?
