Flames extend qualifying offers to 9 players
https://www.nhl.com/flames/news/flam...?tid=282300716
Qualified:
Lindholm*
Hanifin
Jankowski*
Rittich*
Gillies
Kulak*
Hathaway*
Klimchuk
Shinkaruk
Not Qualified:
Carroll*
Hunter Smith
Pribyl
Poirier
Shore*
*indicates eligible for Salary Arbitration
Qualifying Offers (QO)
If a player did not get a QO, they will be UFA on July 1st.
The deadline for a player to accept their QO is July 15.
If a player accepts their QO, they are signed to the terms of the QO.
If they do not accept the QO, they continue to be RFA.
Reasons why a player wasn't extended a QO:
1. Team no longer wants the player
2. the QO is more than the team is willing to pay for the player but they may be open to a deal with less salary
3. the player is eligible for salary arbitration if an QO is tendered and the team wants to avoid an arbitration award
It is still possible for the Flames to sign a player who was not given a QO before or after July 1.

No Shore. Curious, but I had a feeling that might happen considering for how little he was acquired. I hope they hammer out a deal with him but maybe they're clearing room for Derek Ryan.

Flames would have had to qualify Nick Shore at $971,250.
It seems likely to me that there's still a chance he gets signed.

Shore is most likely the case where they didn't want to go to salary arbitration

No real surprises, I think. Probably will sign Shore.

Yeah Derek Ryan seems likely. Or maybe they wanna hand the 4th line spot to Janko or Lazar. A bit surprising about Shore, I liked how he looked but I guess they didn't seem enough from him or were scared about arbitration.
I know a bunch of fans were all gung ho on Poirier after he seeked help but he didn't really have the step forward year we were hoping for. I wonder if they still feel Shinkaruk has NHL potential or if he was signed more to help the farm.
Interesting all around.

Man.. I was really hoping Piorier could get it together last season. I was really high on him at his draft. Sigh

God that Smith pick was just so dumb from day one. It was like Feaster hyperbolically picking emphasizing size. I still just can't decide whether it was a sad attempt to appease his new boss or a dig at his new boss.

Good riddance to easily the most embarrassing prospect the Flames have ever had in Hunter Smith. It’s bad enough that we wasted a 2nd on him, but he was 6’7”, would always lose fights, and then have that obnoxious smile on his face afterwards. Never liked him and not gonna miss him at all.

Hunter Shinkaruk had 17 goals in the AHL last season. With a high advancement and turnover rate in the organization I'd be surprised if he didn't get a call-up or two next year. If Hrivik is out and guys like Mangipane and Foo are given full-time promotions, that leaves Klimchuk and Shinkaruk to be the two big guns in the A.

Huge waste of a pick considering the picks made immediately after.
54. Hunter Smith
55. Brandon Montour
56. Ryan Donato
57. Johnathan MacLeod
58. Christian Dvorak
Hindsight being 20/20 with draft picks, it's a dumb exercise when some random pick way later is the "obvious" choice... but when 3 of the 4 immediate picks after are legit... you blew it big time.

I'm hoping that Poirier gets a break somewhere else.
That is all.

Just misremembering the timeline I guess.
Pick is still awful and was from day one. Didn't misremember that
