Best prepare for disappointment, because he's gone when his ELC is done.

Based on what? We drafted him when everyone thought he was too small, we let him play when everyone thought he would get demolished. His name was chanted in the dome, not in Boston. He's formed close relationships here, his parents know the management. His compadre Money hands is here and he's showing insane chemistry with Bennett.
What evidence is there he'll leave? He's shown nothing but dedication to the city and the game. The kid was smiling and doing charity work during the abysmal losing streak, he's done nothing but show he likes it here.

Stars pretty much never leave the teams that drafted them anymore.

I have a feeling it wouldn't cost superstar level cash to lock him up. Why? He's just a humble human being. I don't think he'd even think that highly of himself even if he ended up top 5-10 in the league this season. He'll look at what TJ, Gio and Hamilton did and ask for reasonable numbers. Really, any budding star whose ultimate goal is to win won't go and handcuff their team by taking them to the bank, and I think that's the kinda guy Gaudreau is. And things like him finishing his degree for him mom and such speaks volumes about his character.

Don't be silly. ELC? He's never going to sign with the Flames in the first place. He's going to go UFA straight out of college, remember?

If we're talking Johnny's next deal - Tarasenko set the bar. 8 years, 7M per.

Especially after the way he screwed the team over by holding out and becoming a UFA when his college career was finished.

This might be right actually. If Johnny finishes top 5 in scoring in the league and the team makes the playoffs he will be able to look at that as a comparable. Both of those conditions are very possible still.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't Gaudreau remain our property even after his ELC is done? Until the age of 27 right?

He's an RFA. We'll easily match any offer sheet should we get wind that he won't sign. If we can't, we'll get a minimum of a 1st, 2nd and 3rd for him, because the offer sheets will likely be in the $5.4m to $7.3m range. I can't see anyone going above that for him.
Even if the very worst case scenario happens(of which there is little evidence or hints), we'll be well compensated for him. He's staying though, no reason to suggest otherwise, bar the throw away comments of a troll.

I could live with that. Johnny has irreplaceable talent level and you're likely paying more for anyone that's at the same level as Johnny anyway.
It's the rest of the team you have to be careful with when it comes to overpaying.

If Johnny ends up with 80+ points this year (definitely looks to be the case) and his 3rd season is also around 80, $7M per on a long term deal is fair for both club and player in my opinion.
I would have said the same thing for Mony, but his slow start is a touch concerning. He appears to be back to old ways now, so he could be in the $7M neighborhood as well.

$7m-$7.5m a year sounds about right for Johnny but I doubt Monahan gets more than $6m. Gaudreau is a star in this league, a true difference maker... Monahan, though I love him, just isn't on that level. Hopefully they both sign 8 year deals but I am skeptical given that the Flames have never given out a contract that long. They've given out two 6 year deals in franchise history, everything else has been 5 years or less, I honestly think that's a trend that's there for some kind of reason (internal mandate?). It's probably more likely they both sign 5-6 year deals unfortunately.
