Internet plans for alberta
My internet plan is expiring. Haven't looked in a while. Shaw is offering me a 2 year deal for $75/month for 2 years. Is this a good deal?

Ouch, no. I pay $60/month with Telus for unlimited data on fibre.

Sorry should have specified. It's 300Mbps. My $60/month 300 MBPS plan with Shaw is expiring in end of November.

Black Friday is coming up, might be worth waiting if you can until then.

Can-com
Uses Shaw infrastructure so exact same connection, same price, no contracts. Best of all there is no phone dance every year or two where you have to threaten to leave to avoid a price increase. One down side, you have to have your own router but really those free routers suck anyway.

Shaw and TELUS pricing have gone up a lot this year. It was a golden age to get internet promotions around 7 months ago, the pricing in the market was better than employee rate if you talked to the right loyalty rep at TELUS.
Shaw has basically put an end to it and TELUS followed suit. Until Shaw starts feeling pressure from their ####ty loading and new client activations for cable this will be unchanged.

Pro tip, go month to month until you can get on a 2 year plan at Boxing Day ‘week’. Then you’ll always be up for a new contract at the time of their plan deals.

I did exactly this but on Black Friday, my two year contract was signed on Black Friday so when it renews I'm hoping I can get a deal then too

With Telus just over a year ago I was able to do ok. Pay just over $100/mo for cable (maybe 2 special channels, but there's so much crap anyways and we don't really watch much), 500GB 75MBps internet (we never go over), and land line. Still need to find a better deal though and maybe scrap the cable and landline. Got 2 PVRs, router, two boosters.

This is who I use and it’s been great. 750 mbps down, 20 up, for $80 and guaranteed no price increases unless mandated by the CRTC. Pm me if you want a $10 discount code.

Do you know if Can-com does any promotions?
We're on telus and the service is so ####'n spotty and up/down it's nuts. I try to have video calls and half of them get interupted and/or do spot-freezing for seconds at a time. And that's on 75Mbps D/L speed, supposedly.

I believe they are regulated by the CRTC and their prices are as low as they can legally be - I seem to recall reading how they had lower prices recently but were sued by the big guys and had to revert to the pricing structure they have now. If you click on one of the packages listed on their site there should be a few options for TV and phone plans as well. I only have internet with them and because I was happy paying the $80/month I was paying with Shaw for 300Mbps I certainly was happy paying the same for 750Mbps. I doubt you'll find them offering their services cheaper, but who knows what Black Friday or Christmas will bring....

I'm using an ASUS RT-AC87U and am happy with the range it gives me plus how easy it is to set up things like port forwarding.

Is that $10 a month off, or just $10 promo code?

I just switched to them on the weekend. Very happy with the price compared to what I was paying for slower speeds from Shaw, and it's definitely nice that it isn't a temporary promotional offer.
