Are you getting a lot of charisma from that? People are tired of the Conservatives and they are beginning to appear stale. That's the appeal of Trudeau. If you listen to him talk though, he just comes off as an overly dramatic airhead. If the Liberals had a Paul Martin type leader, I could completely see myself voting for them, but not this empty suit.

Just thought I would chime in here.

Rob Anders = Controversial
Politically Correct Discourse = Good.

Now give me a cookie!

And as others mentioned before, people voting for a party over, or despite, a candidate is understandable in most cases, but this isn't most cases. The guy hold values questionable to the extreme, is shown to be a lazy politician, and embarrasses his party, his country, and a lot of his electorate.

The strange thing is, even if the people in the riding are conservative boosters, they should also want to get rid of him, as he damages the brand, and perpetuates a lot of the ugly stereotypes other voters have of the conservative party.

So I guess it's important to educate others about the man if the people in that riding (or people in the conservative party in general) want change. I'm not sure enough people really want that change though. I think there are a lot of people there that are partisan to the extreme and would vote for (yes Hitler reference) as long as he wore Conservative blue.

That's bad politics for everyone, even the conservative party. It's important people know that.
This is why Harper should not be the PM of Canada. He goes above and beyond to keep Anders as the Conservative MP.

Why?

The issue is not so much people voting for him since many will vote for party and leader more than candidate. The issue is the gaul of the party to keep running him as candidate. I'd love to see that private members bill pass and see what happens to some of these candidates

I'm still bitter about paying for a party membership so I could vote against him as the candidate for the riding, only to have the party shut down the attempt to get another candidate in. They gave some lame excuse about how candidates couldn't be worried about challenges from within the party during a minority government.

After that I used to get phone calls all the time from the Conservative party asking for my financial support - every time I made it clear they not only wouldn't be getting my money but also not my vote until Anders is out.

That;s a good question, the party certainly hasn't done the right thing in this case.

Though even if the Conservatives manage to pull out a victory next election, which I doubt, Harper won't be PM. But Anders will still probably be there, given the current state of how the riding votes. :/

When Justin Trudeau speaks, I get warm fuzzies all over my body.

When Rob Anders speaks, I cower in the corner and suck on my thumb.

Careful, he might sue CP.

Aeneas makes a legitimate point. People want to support the party, and hold their noses voting for Anders.

People have tried to remove Anders at the party level, and IIRC, the game has been rigged in Anders's favour. The party should show some leadership and turf him. That riding is safe.

I don't disagree with you, but the party has shown no desire to do something. It'd be nice if the electorate did something.

I guess registered members could also put pressure on the party. But again, that goes back to citizen/voter responsibility.

No one with an education can ever defend Harper for his influence on Calgary West and his relationship he has with Anders. Mind bottling stuff happening here.

Levant gets a pass for his occasional bonafide story (like uncovering the Atawapaskat spending scandal).

Anders is a mystery. His riding Board must be huge personal loyalists for him to keep from getting ousted.

How does the party even put up with him? There has to be much, much better candidates that they could replace him with. He could kill puppies, and still not get the boot.

Because Calgary West voters are mindless enough to keep electing him in overwhelming numbers. As a native Calgarian it's honestly embarrassing.

It shows the utter contempt the present conservatives have for the democratic process.

Well, with the riding changing to Calgary Signal Hill, a group has emerged to try to unseat Anders before the 2015 election.
