Can Flames move on from Treliving and Sutter this offseason? Nothing against either but this is pathetic. Feel like Tre has been here long enough to put his stamp on the team and the organization is back to not having an identity. As for Sutter - think players have just checked out from his style.

I haven’t seen great of either of those attributes. Perhaps good is a better adjective. Definitely not elite at either. But hey that gets you 84 million from the flames. Rock on Jon!

No, it’s really not hyperbole. Go look at Huberdeau’s last half-decade of hockey. He is elite.
Sutter and Huberdeau are just a terrible combo. As Lanny said, it’s Darryl’s way or the highway which is a brutally idiotic way to coach. Coaching is about maximizing the roster you have (especially when it has flaws like this one). Nope, Darryl doesn’t do that.
This is just a brutal match.

I’ve actually been rooting for them since they joined, got a jersey as soon as they were available. Used to spend my childhood summers in the PNW. The M’s, Seahawks & Sonics (until they left) are all my #1’s in the other sports. Even their bad year last year was 100x more enjoyable to watch than this .

Both Markstrom and the defense can be bad
They are not mutually exclusive

This team has checked out. Whether it’s tuning the coach out, lack of talent, poor goaltending or all of the above, they have quit.

True, but he’s also getting paid to be an elite tender that bails out some defensive holes and breakdowns.

Which is kind of crazy when you consider they’re just 4 pts out and they had a chance to really climb back into the hunt tonight.
Seems for sure like something happened Saturday night.

It’s been like this all year. Just putrid system and execution. Huska has to go. I though sutter was the dman whisperer. He seems to have lost he ability to coach those guys up. Hanifin has stalled. Tanev looks worn out. Weegar is pretty good for what we are paying but he’s not worth more than Tanev. Zadorov has been a massive regression candidate and I wanted him back this year because of the physicality but he’s the only one at the expense of high iq. He’s a knuckle dragger. I can’t believe Gudbranson was more of a stabilizing force with him.
This team has given up on this coaching staff. Such divas all around. Toffoli has been good. Dube looks like he cares. These guys are in a standoff with the coach and no one wins. Especially not our draft capital.

I think this is a dumb dismissive comment with no thought behind it.
There are too many good individual parts here to just throw blanket "they're just bad" statements out there in response to an actual attempt at diagnosing the issues.

All a coach can control is ice time and deployment. These guys are overpaid divas.
And sorry to say but Huberdeau is being paid like he’s the guy. Massive miscalculation by the front office. The equivalent of taking a s#!t on your bosses desk when you resign or quit.
|
He's always been a one dimensional, offensive winger. You can make him play defense, like he is doing now, but it's obviously killing his offensive game.

I think you're setting yourself up for a disappointment if you expect that. He will put up more points in a different system but I never saw that kind of player in Florida. Just the fact that he is almost totally a pass first -type of player means that he heavily relies on his linemates to produce. He also doesn't carry the puck up the ice.

30yrs of complaining about the coach and the GM...
Fans / Ownership are two staples over this time frame...one has control, the other one doesn't.
List the team on the TSX. Let's have a budget, and pay for our own building.

I can't believe people are more mad at Sutter than Treliving.

It's not just the forwards.
You need to put the dmen in a position to succeed it's been very evident since November that this man on man chase coverage doesn't work with this group.
But like Lanny said it's my way or the highway with Sutter.
A record 85 assists? Naw meet your new best friend the half wall and I want 10 weak attempts in net from here.

That's a coach who won't adjust his game plan, lines, matchups or ice time distribution.
This entire year is Sutter "proving" to the team that's he is the boss. Signing that contract extension was one of the biggest mistakes of the last decade.
What was the possible rush there.

Did we play man coverage last year? The amount of times I have seen blown coverages due to the cycle caught my eye and I'm not sure if I remember that happening as much last year.

Disagree. Weegar and Andersson have been good lately.
They've been the leaders from the back end.
Nobody but Backund and Toffoli have done anything up front.

When Phillips is in the running for the Calder next year for another team, we can thank Sutter for that.
