Both of those guys need the pedal down constantly to be effective, in different ways. From a mental and physical perspective, sitting them has to keep them sharp.

Yesterday listening to them talk about Hall and his inconsistency and how many coaches hes had made me think about Bennett too.
Bennett is everyone's favorite to piss on. I hope maybe we have 1 coach that gets the message thru and maybe itll be Ward and maybe it wont but Gelinas is now behind the bench too and knows a thing or 2 about player development.
Perhaps This helps Bennett ? I also think Bennetts just fine and prefer him over who he replaces tonite

During the Canes game, I took my 4 yr old down behind the Flames bench to watch the warmups. He stood there for 10 mins waving to get some players' attention. Dube flipped a puck over to the trainer and the trainer was about to throw the puck over the glass to my son, but Dube tapped him and pointed to a 10 year old boy instead.
Selfishly, Dube demotion is ok in my books.

Was gonna post this. Not a huge deal but I felt like from the limited viewing, this D pairing switch worked a tad better. Unless I missed a few shifts where it fell apart.

Why can't we just be happy Bennett is back? His physicality is refreshing and he tries hard every shift. Taking penalties comes with that. Yes he could be better but that's what happens when a player is growing.

It was jokes for sure, but I do feel scared for the discipline factor, excited for the potential increase in physical play we will see.

Lucic, Tkachuk and Bennett are all right around 1 PIM per game. All 3 are physical, all 3 are antagonistic, and all 3 get called for penalties at about the same rate. Yet some of you talk like Bennett gets a penalty every shift he's out there.
Does he take some dumbass penalties? Yes. Does he also get the occasional call that would get called on no one else? IMO, yes.

It's probably the style of penalty. Lucic is usually for roughing someone up, which people like. Tkachuk is usually for something that is coincidental with the other team, so no harm done, plus he historically is a net penalties drawn.
Bennett was typically getting holding or hooking calls in the offensive zone, so either lazy or not too smart on the forecheck. Or, like you say, a rep call.
I'm not saying that's the case 100% of the time, but that's the rationale for the differing reactions.

Bennett has 10 minor penalties in 20 games.
Lucic has 7 minor penalties in 33 games.
Tkachuk has 10 minor penalties in 34 games.
Not even close to the same rate.
