That is horrifying. There really is no hope for that country anymore in regards to trying to implement sane gun laws. As long as the NRA keeps funneling money into the GOP, it'll never change.
The only way anything changes is if someone goes in and mows down 95% of the GOP and even then, I'd say it's a narrow chance something changes. And for the word twisters, no I'm not advocating or hoping for that to happen. It's just the only scenario where I can see where there might be a snowball's chance in hell that change might occur.
The news reporter mentioned this was the 18th school shooting in the last 6 weeks....un-freaking-believable!!!!
what's more unbelievable is that only with this shooting are people waking up to the fact that there even has been 18 school shootings this year.
as someone mentioned, mass shootings, even in schools, do not move the needle for the nightly news anymore... only when those numbers reach double digits does the incident make the news.
sadly, people are so desensitized to these incidents, there is no reaction

It's not so much being desensitized, although that's part of it. It's just the cycle of these events is predictable and the end result is the same: the only thing that changes is sometimes gun laws get loosened , but otherwise it's just a countdown to the next one.
Double digits doesn't even change much. It has to be something unique like Mandalay Bay. And even then, that was irrelevant within month. We just accept that the price of freedom is hundreds unnecessarily dead every year. Que crying eagle gif.

I'm not sure how much stock I would put in the 18 school shooting number. Apparently accounts as a school shooting if there's a shooting in the parking lot between non-students and between two people
- Outright ban on assault riffles
- Handgun and hunting rifles would require extensive background checks, lengthy waiting periods, a full week of mandatory certified training on how to responsibly use and store the firearm. There would be minimum storage requirements.
- bullets cost a minimum $50 each.

You don't think that two people shooting at each other in a school parking lot is a noteworthy and troubling incident?

I think a big part of the desensitization has to do a lot with geography. For me in Calgary, it would be more impactful if the shootings were happening on a regular basis in whitefish, Spokane or cour delene (sp).
Places like Florida seem very far away.

You would really have to up enforcement. I'm not saying that what you have here isn't a good idea. But
You would create a underground market for assault rifles.
You would create a underground market for bullet smuggling because it would instantly be more profitable then selling drugs.
I've advocated that if you own a gun you have to own hideously expensive insurance and if your caught with an uninsured weapon its 5 years at hard labor, if you shoot someone and your uninsured its life.
If you suddenly forced the insurance industry to insure guns it would counter a lobby group like the NRA, and the insurance industry would instantly push for gun reform.

Vast majority of school shooters in these scenarios have killed themselves, so it's anomalous that he did not. Interesting to see where it goes from here.
If you're a teacher, are you fond of the idea of doing it in America? Seems like a high-risk occupation since you have a significantly higher chance of working at a school that has a shooting incident there.

Err how are handguns and long guns in the same sentence?
Assault rifles(most) and handguns = Restricted weapons

That's easy, capital murder, he will get the needle.
This is incredible. How has nobody in the US dealt with this problem? Just incredibly stupid, wow.
And another AR-15 used in the car wash shooting linked above. Why are these still available? Get rid of them already.
It is only going to continue to get worse.
I remember a couple of years ago a car dealer near Orlando was giving them away with a pickup truck purchase.
I don’t get why this kid had such easy access to the school. The high school here has a security area that even a mail truck can’t get through without being let in.
Maybe because it was Parkland, the Mayberry of Broward County and nothing’s supposed to happen there.
Seriously, when someone asks “where’s the best place to raise kids in South Florida” , Parkland is usually number one.
