Any insurance company who is willing to underwrite contacts for guys like Fielder and Tulowitzki is probably looking for a government bail out right about now.

Anymore on this??? Haven't seen it reported anywhere and refuse to consider the Fan 960 as in the know on anything other than the Flames...

Yeah, it's weird because the last major update suggested he'd be ready at or near the beginning of the regular season. To extend that two months suddenly would be odd.

Summary of the last two updates from Pinder in Florida:
1) Went to the original Hooters and got wings
2) Went to the Panthers game and had a great time
3) No one in the Jays locker room wanted to talk to him
4) Brunt is taking him and others out to dinner tonight
I'm thinking its not likely the Fan 960 broke the story

Definitely not, but I doubt he puts something like that it there in the radio if he didn’t hear it from one of the more reputable Sportsnet people down there, because as you said, every morning he complains about how none of the Jays will talk to him. I think it was Monday morning when he dropped that into his little segment.

I'm assuming these pre-season games aren't televised anywhere? I wanted to see how Vladdy looks.

Pure speculation from Ryan Di Franceso at Blue Jays Nation but he mentioned this regarding Tulowitzki:
Quote:
‘He’s (Troy Tulowitzki) not on the field. He’s going to have to, ya know, see how his body recovers from the various foot and ankle injuries that he’s been fighting through. We’re better with him out there, but right now we’re planning, ya know, as if he’s not out there until we can progress to the next stages and see him on the field.’
Honestly, I don’t know if you listened to this interview and I’m not a goddamn psychologist, but Shapiro’s tone dropped a bit when he answered this question and it sounded to me like he knows it’s not good. And the thing is, it’s really hard to watch a player with so much talent quickly lose the awesome skillset that he once had. I hope to hell that Tulowitzki can come back from these bone spur issues and play the game he loves and that we love watching him play, but ugh something just doesn’t seem right here folks. I hope I’m wrong…

Well that's not going to do a whole lot for my plan to temper my expectations.

Vlad Guerrero Jr: 4-5, 2 R
Bo Bichette: 2-3, 2 RBI, R, SB
Anthony Alford: 3-4, 3B, 2 2B, 3 R, RBI
Yeah, that's pretty exciting.

I'm pretty excited about that group. Alford is going to really sneak up on everyone (if you can even call it that) with those other 2 getting so much deserved hype.

Should we expect any of those guys on the roster opening day? I know some teams wait until June to bring up prized prospects cuz of some sort of contract rule, would same thing happen here?

Guerrero turns 19 in a week and Bichette turned 20 this week. They are absolute babies in the baseball world. I don't think there's anyway they see MLB at bat's this season. I'm guessing we'll see them in mid-late 2019 and pushing for regular full time duty in 2020 IF everything continues to go smooth with their progression.

Jays are giving a sneak peak today by using their probable opening day lineup (assuming current health situations remain the same)
Granderson
Travis
Donaldson
Smoak
Martin
Morales
Grichuk
Pillar
Diaz

Harper was in the league at 19 wasn’t he? I don’t want them to rush these guys, but one more year of tearing up the minors and I think it is time to consider it.

Harper is a unbelievable story of crazy parents and a kid who was “built” to be a star... if either of those guys turn out to be close to his talent we will be lucky.

If you are an Athletic subscriber I recommend this article. It's basically Martin and Maile talking about the niceties of catching.
https://theathletic.com/265182/2018/...e-strike-zone/
Quote:
Martin: “But then there are certain situations where you need a strike, and so far you've only framed strikes during the game, and the pitch is just a little bit off the plate and you hold that one. You've trained the umpire and he's seen that every time you've held it, it's been a strike, and then – pop! – the one time you do hold (a borderline pitch), you might get that call.”
Maile: “You build a rapport. The guy knows you're not trying to trick him. You're not trying to move it a bunch when it's obviously a ball. Maybe he balls that close pitch in the third inning, and you don't get it in the fifth inning, but in the ninth inning with the game on the line, and you've been presenting him and not tricking him, human emotion kicks in and you know what? He might call that pitch a strike.”
