Costco Restaurant Changes
I was at the Deerfoot Meadows/Heritage Costco today and I noticed they actually took down the sign board advertising their Costco Chicken wings/drumsticks that you could buy by the bucket with Buffalo sauce. It's also gone from the touchscreen menu.
It looks like that might be a permanent change. I remember back in the day, my friend would smuggle a bucket of that into the movie theatre inside a giant purse and we would eat that during a movie!
I am also lamenting the loss of all the Hot Dog toppings. I had hoped it was just a pandemic thing when they stopped having self-serve condiment dispensers but they still gave out toppings like onions, peppers, and sauerkraut separately in plastic cups. I asked recently and they said they also don't have those anymore. All they do now is have bins of ketchup, mustard, and relish packs in bins for people to take. I really miss the onions and sauerkraut.
Costco's restaurant is always a guilty pleasure and has fed me through poor student days and throughout recessions.

back in they day? Hasn't Costco wings only been around for 3-4 years?
Also I went to the Costco in Montana. It's a $1.50 for a hot dog there too but in US$. we get a deal!

Don't think I've have had anything from the Costco restaurant, I always forget it's even a thing.

They also got rid of their coffee and lattes at some point. I imagine they put a huge crimp in the workflow in the kitchen

3 years ago was the start of the pandemic! It might differ depending on your store. I saw that in the US Costco's there a onion dispensing machine that freshly chops onions for you.
I definitely had a bucket of Costco wings while watching Justice League in 2017 almost 6 years ago.

How do you miss the giant crowds of people standing by the window waiting for their number to get called?
It feels pretty insanely busy these days, I think it's ever more popular with the inflation of food prices.

When Costco president W. Craig Jelinek once complained to Costco co-founder and former CEO Jim Sinegal that their monolithic warehouse business was losing money on their famously cheap $1.50 hot dog and soda package, Sinegal listened, nodded, and then did his best to make his take on the situation perfectly clear.
"If you raise [the price of] the effing hot dog, I will kill you," Sinegal said. "Figure it out."

So many thoughts;
I like the new style drink lids, sippy cups are my jam, paper straws must die.
The loss of hotdog onions is sad.
How can anyone justify buying anything other than a Hot Dog from them, the price point just makes it impossible to choose anything different.
The ordering terminals made a bigger difference at Costco than any other restaurant before, it's good
Not just Costco, but McDonalds as well needs to find a way to distribute the drink cup to you while you wait for the food. All that down time and the self serve drink station just starring you in the face.

Since I was a kid, sippy was the way to go! I love the new lids so much! So happy to see paper straws get evicted from Costco. I wish other places would follow suit with the same style lids.

Whew, saw the thread title and got worried for a second.
I miss the onions for the hot dogs (or more specifically, the polish sausage) but for $1.50 I’ll live — you can’t buy anything for $1.50 anymore. I was annoyed when I went last time and saw poutine was now over $5, but again it’s still reasonable.
Do you remember when then used to sell cheeseburgers? They were pretty solid but I imagine it was a lot of work for them to make. On a related note, the cheeseburgers at the Dome suck now — no lettuce (or tomato apparently) due to “supply issues”. We know you’re cheap CSEC, no need to blame others for it…

I love the Costco poutine. It's been a couple years since i've had it though.
Can you still go into Costco just to eat without a membership card?

Tell them you're going to the pharmacy.
Food court is eventually going all electronic ordering and will require your card to enable ordering so down those hot dogs as fast as you can.

Isn't it all kiosk touchscreens already? How will that change? Like scan your membership card at the kiosk before it will even give you options?

I wish we had the churros in Canada that are available at the US food courts. Those things are awesome.

No, I know… for a $6 happy hour cheeseburger I’m not going to complain, but if I’m paying $12 I’d want more than just a bun and the patty (and I guess the cheese). Maybe my expectations are too high…
