Maybe with the increased percentage of people being tested it's not feasible.
When I came back from San Diego on Sunday it felt like maybe 25-33% were tested. Showed my phone with Switch Health already registered and was told to just go around the line of people getting registered, but it wasn't a huge line.

Free testing in Hawaii is easiest on Oahu or Maui. The Big Island and Kauai do technically have some free options, but are limited and/or slower.
On all the islands, Prevent Covid Hawaii is an organization with free testing that a lot of Canadians are having success with.
info for Kona testing: https://ydeals.com/where-can-i-find-...r-tests-in#KOA
Just to mention for anyone looking, that WestJet is promoting the same RT-LAMP test as Switch Health now (the Lucira Check-It self-test), but the telehealth portion is through Azova. (This is the test that's valid for entry back into Canada)
The Switch Health RT-LAMP test is almost always sold out now. The Azova RT-LAMP test can be found at: https://www.azova.com/westjetswoop/at-home/ ($115 USD)
Whether one purchases the Air Canada/Switch Health or the WestJet/Azova version, it can be used with any airline. Air Canada and WestJet are just promoting them.

Thanks - this was really helpful. Booked a free test in Hawaii so we'll see how that pans out. Already received my Switch Health RT-LAMP kits, but worst case I'll keep those as a backup or for another trip.

Just a heads up that WestJet companion and lounge access vouchers that were due to expire at the end of the year can be extended to June 30, 2022.
The catch is that you have to register your vouchers. To do so, go to: https://www.westjet.com/en-ca/rewards/voucherextension
Vouchers need to be registered by December 28th to qualify for the extension.

Prevent Covid definitely looks like a good free option for the Big Island but only one location is open Monday-Friday and the rest are only open one or two days so not necessarily great for travellers. I'm definitely going to look into them although we probably will just go with Clinical labs as I haven't heard anyone having problems with their test turnaround and we want to avoid the risk of having to rebook new tickets at the last moment because we didn't get results in time.
Just a heads up for your blog that there is no Walgreens open on the Big Island as far as I can tell. The Hilo location is permanently closed and the nearest locations on their map are all on Maui. I think the Kona location that shows up on yelp is now a Longs Drugs. As for CVS they state if the test is for travel then the flat rate of $139 applies. I know Canadiens have been getting around this and getting the test for free but I don't like having to falsify info and I wouldn't be surprised if they said you had to pay when your license doesn't match whatever state was used. There are also numerous stories about slow turnaround with CVS so doesn't seem worth the risk just to maybe get the test for free.
On a different tangent one thing I didn't know was that most airlines aren't offering meals for purchase at this time so consider your length of flight and bring food if needed. Most of the fast food places weren't open in YVR but we were there after 4:30PM so they might have just closed. Westjet still had complimentary snacks and drinks though.

Man that GMG. We converted a companion to lounge access given we wouldn't be booking any more trips before the end of the year. Doubt I'll even use the lounge vouchers ffs....

I came back from Kauai Oct 30 and required the 72 hour PCR test to get back in Canada.
I was told that the only way to get a PCR test back in that period of time was to go to their medical center in Lihue. I was told that PCR tests through pharmacies went to the mainland and results would take longer than 72 hours.
The test at the medical center is drive through, open from 10 am to 1 pm. They did a nose swab. Our results were e-mailed to us in PDF form by 4 pm the same day we had our test done...so not even 12 hours. The cost was $150 US.
My return flight transited through mainland US. In that case, the PCR test had to be no more than 72 hours from when you leave mainland US. My transit was through Dallas at 6 pm so then you go back 72 hours from when that flight starts.

If I don't have a car in Hawaii, can I walk through the drive through for a covid test at a pharmacy?

Everything I've read is that you have to drive, people have been doing Ubers/Taxis/Car rentals etc.

most Ubers will refuse to take you through drive through tests. They get paid from A to B. Easier to rent a car and return it right away. A cab with the wait time will likely cost the same price.

If you want to use an uber for that you should expect to prepay in cash for the extra time.

So, I had zero difficulty flying out of Canada yesterday... we'll have to see if they let me back in.

Good luck. Hopefully it is painless but it sounds like this new set of regulations is really messed up right now. I have very little faith in the folks in charge right now. You would think that after two years they would have a decent playbook established with various contingency plans but it seems like they are flying by the seat of their pants.

Well they have a week to sort it out. My problem is I land the 18th and fly again the 21st, if all goes according to plan... we shall see.

I'm just going to keep repeating that this isn't true, hopefully saving someone undue hassle.
It went from 3 calendar days to 1. That means if you fly out at 7pm on a Friday, you're fine with a test from 8am on Thursday.

Hey everybody. Sorry - I haven’t had time to read anything in this thread.
My folks (Canadians) are in phoenix and are flying home to yyc on Wednesday afternoon.
What is the testing requirements for them?
My dad is thinks it is 72 hrs, I’ve been told its 24 hrs.
A link would be helpful if possible to send him the correct info.
TIA

Government site is here: https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid/tr...ntering-canada
Need test 72 hours or less before return.
The 24 hours is probably someone talking about going the other way - you need a test the day before departure to the USA (although not 24 hours, the day prior)

Ok thanks.
Is it different for Americans coming to Canada? My neighbors folks are here from the US and it was 24hrs for them. That is what made men start to question

Does anyone know where I might be able to book a rapid antigen test in order to fly to the US later this month? I didn't think it would be this difficult but I can't find an appointment until early Jan. I tried online at Coop, Recall, Costco and Walmart. Shoppers does not have an online booking platform.
Where should I check in order to get this done? I need some Vegas time!

I dont think it's different for Americans. I'd definitely keep checking official sources right up until they leave. This stuff keeps changing without much rhyme or reason.
