Watched Tag. It was funny, expectedly dumb but a decent enough comedy.
Ready Player One was a whole lotta meh. Unsatisfying. Too obsessed with 80s pop culture references that I don’t care about and too thin on story. Uninteresting characters. CGI wasn’t bad, just not impressive enough to save a mediocre movie.
I thought there was two halves to the movie. The first half seemed like they were building a story, and the second half became a made for TV disney flick. Decent, but that last 30 minutes or so was just so childish for me.

I guess i'm just the right age to have loved all the easter eggs in RP1. I thought it was a great ride. A bit of an average story maybe but tons of fun.

I enjoyed it as well. I thought the story was well executed for the most part, and it was fun trying to spot all the references. Spielberg's work over the last decade or so has been hit and miss, but I think he did a great job with RPO.
I just finished Dear Zachary. Oh boy, that's a sad documentary. If you don't know what it's about, watch it without reading up on the plot or even searching it as quick glances at the results might ruin it for you and it's a great story to watch unfold.

I can't even think about that one, I've tried to block it out. I really wished I had never watched it. I think calling it a great story is not accurate at all. Nothing great about it.

Finally got around to watching "Purple Rain" and it reminded me of a toned down "The Room" in the sense that it was the product of an amateur film maker's self indulgent fantasy: awkward nudity and sex scenes, rampant abuse of women (a woman gets thrown into a dumpster for annoying Morris Day), Prince casually wearing leather pants and blouses in daytime, most of the lead roles were performed by musicians and/or Prince's friends.
The big difference is that it has one of the best movie soundtracks of all time (a number of songs are performed in their entirety). I love the album, but was pleasantly surprised by how well all the songs meshed into the movie. Would recommend.

Everything about Purple Rain is awesome. I wish I could watch it right now.
Took me a few to realize everybody is talking about the cult classic “The Room” and not the one with Brie Larson. They really should have given that a different name.

As for ReadyPlayer One, I think a lot of the problems stemmed from taking a story that occurred over the course of a year year in the book, down to about three days elapsed time in the movie. There wasn't really any sense that the real world was absolute crap and the stakes were really high. Made it too cartoonish, and the 'tests' pretty meh, when they should have been monstrously hard to complete.
Add in a year of real world cat and mouse, and it would have been a pretty epic film.

I liked Ready Player One but it was always going to be a tough one with so many characters and so much content.

Agreed. Both of these were not well established in the movie. Sometimes they acted like we were in some sort of dystopian future and other times it just seemed like a regular happy world with more technology. The movie didn't seem to want to commit as to whether the world was crap or not.
Same with the quests. It was like they just solved them without any real effort. They went 5 years without so much as a hint of progress and then all three were solved within a week. We never got that sense of how impossible they were to solve or how important it was to solve them and how that relates to the horrible world they actually lived in and the consequences of letting that evil company win.
