You mean GGW? I watched it a couple of times - kind of boring. No Baz and no Dream is a problem however.

i find it insulting to my intelligence to suggest that coaxial cable is just as good as ethernet. splitters, ends, damage to the insultation are all things that make it inferior. under the perfect situation, yes, its as good as ethernet. but thats a faily large difference, isnt it

This paragraph alone demonstrates your lack of understanding. Ethernet is not a cable, it is a standard of transmission. Ethernet can be transmitted over any copper wire. I was looking at HDMI over Coax solutions yesterday. Copper is copper.

Please explain how a twisted pair cable is better by a fairly large difference then coax. What you said about Coax can be true of twisted pair cables as well. I didn't realize that buying RG6 with compression fittings was the "perfect situation" and what exactly do you think is going on in between walls that damages insulation?

Yeah, sorry, GGW...got carried away with the G's there.

There is a ton of stuff I watch in HDNet, while GGW is fun to watch when I've got nothing else to do. Not having HDNet overall is a non-starter for me.

o ffs yes, cat 5 cable, cable which i refer to as ethernet in the same way people call tissue kleenex. and yes, spin it all you like but coaxial cable is not as durable or insulated as CAT5/6 cable.

Who the eff cares about Coax and Cat5 cables. Lets get back on topic as I am considering the switch to Optik TV as well and this thread has some good information on the product. I don't care about how they install in my house, just as long as they can install it with the 3 hd and 1 sd feeds.

You're right. theonlywhiteout telling people that coax is inferior to cat5e/6 cable in Telus's IPTV setup has no relevence to anyone interested in using or having Optik installed. This Optik thread has been derailed for far too long with Optik discussion.

Some people can talk about cat5/coax. Others can still discuss other parts of Optik.

If posters are really smart they can even talk about coax vs cat5 in the same posts that they talk about other parts of Optik.

Do they have it seutp anywhere to view? I guess my biggest hesitation is I'm skeptical of the ability to deliver actual HD content at such low bitrates. Netflix's "HD" for example.

It's a huge hassle to switch (if you do Internet, TV, and Phone all at once), and switching back if I wasn't happy with the TV quality or the speed of the Internet would really REALLY suck.

well if it makes any difference, when I got Optik TV i felt the picture quality was better then what I was getting on Shaw (HD)

I've got Starchoice right now, not sure how Shaw's cable HD compares but I've read that it's inferior to Starchoice (or Shaw Direct or whatever it is now).

So how much are you guys on Optik paying right now? How much will you be paying in 3 months? How much in a year?

On Shaw with basic phone/normal internet/HD TV with sports package I'm paying around $90 a month for the next year (because I called to say I was switching to Telus) and then it'll go back up to $120.

I'm quite interested in Optik just because of the guide and the PVR anywhere. Question about the PVR anywhere functionality as I don't really understand it... can you only actually pause live TV on the TV that's actually hooked up to the PVR? Or do you get STB for other TV's in the house that extend the PVR functionality to those other TV's?

Also if I was planning to hang myself, would coax or cat5 work better?
