I think the answer to your question is a big part of the problem. In other words, bigots feel safe and entitled within the bubble; hockey culture has contributed to the situation, and it won't be suddenly corrected by the removal of only one or two of the most visibly egregious offenders.

It is really dumb. Even if people have those thoughts, you would think they have the intelligence to filter themselves.
But you better believe that racial, sexist and other prejudice language is used all the time in professional environments.
Thankfully increasingly there are consequences for that. But not consistently.
