I see Kevin is pushing the “ Oilers are such a young team” narrative on the media again. Holy hell we’ve been hearing about the young upstart Oilers since 1981. It is such a load of crap. There are many younger teams than the Oilers in the NHL. But keep coming up with excuses, you clowns. You know what they say about excuses?
Werent the Hawks a younger team than the Oilers?

Hmm. Maybe I should apply for a PR job with the Oilers. I can tell them my name is Xavier Quimby. I'll run an official team blog to answer all the fans' questions and complaints.
It will be called, of course, ‘X.Q. Says.’

I was just looking at Hockey Reference for team ages. I like the way they do it, weighting it by TOI, because a team could have a 40 year old, or a 20 year old sitting on the bench getting 3 minutes a game - either way it is irrelevant. Weighting it by TOI considers who the important players are.
Going by wtd avg age, the Oilers are right on league avg at 28.0 (and rank 16th or 17th, I forget which).
The Flames, BTW, are a little below avg at 27.7 (tied with the Lightning and Pens)

and since the year that you get your picks matters, for the 3 years that the Flames did have a lottery pick, the Oilers had the following (Flames - Oilers):
#6 - #7
#4 - #3
#6 - #4
So for the 3 years that the Flames had lottery picks, the Oilers had identical lottery picks (slightly better actually). And on top of that, they also had:
4 #1s, a #8 and a #10
and yet they suck.

It's criminal I tell you. Criminal that McDavid isn't in the playoffs.
"I’m of the belief that fans innately want to see superstars succeed, regardless of which team they happen to play for. That success fosters a sense of validation to the entire ordeal of sports — that somewhere along the way logic factors in and one’s hopes aren’t tied to a bunch of dudes randomly guessing at how well grown men can bat a piece of rubber around a frozen pond.
Even if your allegiance lies steadfastly Calgary Flames, look me in the eyes and tell me that watching McDavid hoist Lord Stanley’s Cup won’t bring a smile to your face. You can’t."
