If true, not sure how to feel about that.

LOL wow

“From everything that I’ve heard, it looks like Seattle Kraken is going to be the name,” Hoven said on the broadcast. “Which is quite surprising, actually, when I was given that information just a couple of days ago. I was a little bit in shock personally, just because we had been told several times previously that that was not the name that they were going for. It looked like they were leaning toward Sockeyes. And then now, I guess it’s come out that that was a name that’s been used in a book by an author. Maybe it was a fantasy novel, I’m not exactly sure, I haven’t done the research on what the book series was about. But it’s been out there I guess now for about five years or so.

...

The best-selling Seattle Sockeyes book series is by Jami Davenport and are romance novels. Davenport lives in Western Washington state.
So their first choice got undercut by a bunch of steamy romance books.

On one hand, I love it. Kinda goofy, but could be cool.

On the other, something more traditional would have been nice. So much inspiration from the nature/history of the Pacific Northwest.

They probably had to tread lightly on something like Totems, but I think it would have been a good one. Eagles would have been pretty standard. Was never a fan of the Sockeyes.

To be fair, I’d take Kraken over Sockeyes. It’s the lesser of two evils, and would ensure they weren’t called the suckeyes for the rest of their tenure.

I don’t mind it, personally. Maybe a little predictable.

It sounds a little awkward as first but we will get used to saying it and the potential for cool logo designs is endless.

Their inaugural season slogan should be "Let's Get Kraken"
