Default Acer Aspire laptop won't boot up

Aspire 5252-V440
Power light comes on and I can hear the fan running but no HD activity and only a blank screen.

Google searches and suggestions did not work.

I'm thinking its dead but am open to suggestions.

Yeah, sounds like HD failure. I hope if it is you have backups or they can recover data. I went through that last year on my Macbook Pro. Sorry to hear.

Sounds like it is not POSTing.

Any beeps happening at all?

edit:If the HDD had failed, you would receive a message on the screen indicating that there was no disk found, so that's almost certainly not it.

I can't remember the last time I had a laptop beep at me upon POST. But at the VERY least you should see the ACER logo and an option to press a key to get into the BIOS or boot device selection menu.

If you aren't even seeing that, sounds like it's royally buggered (ie: not the hard drive).

Might be a video card/onboard video/monitor failure. Try hooking it up to an external monitor and boot.

Neither can I. I guess I missed that entirely since it wasn't in the post body.

Try pulling the battery and AC power and letting it rest completely unpowered for 60 seconds, just for poops and giggles.

You need to remove the HDD from your old PC
Install HDD in an enclosure (2.5" SATA)
Use it like a regular external hard drive and transfer data off.

If you worked downtown, we could arrange something where you came to my office during the day and I could do it during lunch.
